Chapter 142 - Rumble in the Sewers

Heyu's POV

We had just finished receiving transmissions from Nathan through Undine. I was glad that everyone was safe but the bile in my stomach refused to stop rising.

"Loki, Undine, Bel and myself. Hmph This is quite a party we have here." I said sarcastically under my breath.

Somehow while we had all been running that disgusting spirit beast had gotten ahead of us and blocked the path with some rubble. I had sworn to myself that if Nathan had been clumsy and Yuki would have been hurt, I would never forgive him.

What had soured me further was watching Nathan and Yuki run off hand in hand like they were dancing in a field of damn flowers! The only thing that had made me feel even remotely better about the current situation was that Yuki was too naive to realize the quite battle that had been taking place behind his back.

[That Nathan! All smiles but sneaky to the core!]

My body shook for a moment before I clenched my fist.

"Seems Yuki has somehow gained the Mary sue affect" Loki said in a mumble.

"What's that?" I blurted out as I looked over at Loki next to me.

"Never mind" Loki said with a sigh.

I looked over at Loki and couldn't help but notice his irritation. His hands were over his temples rubbing them as if to dispel a headache. His outfit seemed a little tattered but the regal disposition that he carried with him could still be still be seen under the thin vail of dirt that was covering him.

"I see" I responded unable to bring myself to ask what was bothering him.

I felt already knew the answer…and frankly it made me feel worse.

Unwilling to continue to discuss such matters with my smelly comrade I stood and looked around. It was dank as per the rest of the underground sewers. I was not sure how far the spirit beast telepathy worked since I didn't have a spiritual beast myself but I could only guess that the other teams couldn't be too far away.

I placed my hand on the earth and tried to find weaknesses. We had been trapped by the rubble so we had to be careful in order to make sure our little pocket of space did not collapse. It had taken a full incense stick of time to figure out where we could break through from.

Every section was covered in rocks from all sides. The rocks were large and small alike. It would have been hard to get out of here if I were not an earth user since the slightest mistake would cause a collapse. The rocks had always called to me and whispered secrets that non earth users couldn't hear. They were wordless but I could feel in my heart the right path to take.

"Undine, Bel...I need your help." I said with one hand still on the wall.

Undine looked at little worse for wear. Being a water spirit, he would absorb the water elements around him in the air. Since the water here was tainted you could only imagine how dirty he was.

Undine got up slowly. He had tried to dust off his hands but the dirt refused to move. His mouth formed a frown. The middles of his brows had begun to form peaks.

"The quicker we get out of here the better!" Undine snapped as he shot filth from his hand. It pooled on the floor as his eyes went a shade darker.

"Absorbing this sewer water is making my body feel sick." Undine said flatly.

Bel seemed okay. I had guessed in her line of work she had ran through quite a number of uninhabitable places to avoid detection. She merely stood up and had walked over with small strides. As she strode, she began to tie her hair using a piece of leather and had finished by the time she arrived at my side.

"Where do I aim my blade?" Bel said flatly.

"Just here." I said pointing to a small crack.

"When she slices it Undine you will have to push the rocks away using some water" I said looking at the crack.

"And who are you to tell me what to do?" Undine said obviously in a foul mood.

"Do you want to stay in this place?" Loki responded as he watched the commotion.

Undine looked over and huffed before he summoned a ball of water. It looked as if he had made up his mind to help. Bel nodded and began to count back from three.

Three…

Two…

One…

"Now!"

Cling!

The rock was cleanly sliced away a slight rumble began. I quickly used my earth magic to hold the rocks steady before Undine used his own magic to push the top parts of the rubble away. Piece after piece fell down until an opening was formed. We looked up at the low ceiling and sighed in relief after the shaking stopped.

"Shall we?" Loki was the first to say as he jumped over what was left of the crumbled wall.

As we made it passed the wall Loki conjured a ball of light in his hand and looked around. There was puddles of grime that covered the wall and small particles of debris and water that floated in the air and reflected the light from Loki's magic.

With a small bit of effort, the cloths near our mouths had been straightened to make sure we didn't breathe them in. The flimsy cloth didn't do much about the smell and my nose wrinkled trying to avoid the stench.

"Careful our sense are dulled by the environment and visibility is low. I am guessing there is more then just that nasty beast in here." Bel said quietly as she held her dagger to in combat position.

" Not to mention the stench" Loki said as he held his nose.

"Which way do we go?" I said as I looked in Undines direction. I could sense there was three paths ahead of us. The left one was blocked due to the cave in but there was still a right path and one that took us straight ahead.

The room was silent for a moment before Undine pointed to the right path.

"Nathan is this way" He said bluntly and began to walk ahead. Since Loki was lighting the way and Undine was acting as the attacking force up ahead, I waited for Bel to walk and stood behind her. At least if there were to be a back attack by an enemy, I would at least have my earth magic to warn me in advance.

There were a few paths ahead however most had been damaged by the spirit beasts body. Claw marks could be seen on the occasional wall and visibility was declining.

"Stop!" Loki suddenly said in a stern tone.

"What is it?" Bel added.

"We can go this way…"

"What do you mean…Oh."

Bel became shocked as she looked at the walls. She covered her mouth and walked back slowly. In the dim light were what looked like hundreds of bat looking creatures.

Some had been crushed by rubble while others were soundly sleeping.

[ Not good those are rank one blood bats! Although they are weak on their own… so many… ]

I looked over with a sense of unease as I took a could of steps backwards myself.

Loki held up his hand in a motion that said "We need to go back"

Rumble!

The walls shook violently!

Screeeeeekkkk!

No one in our team needed any more instinctive to run. My heart beat sped up as we rushed back from the direction we came. Swarms of bats chased behind us angered that they had been awaked.

Instead of getting split up like last time we all chose to keep pace with one another unconsciously. Considering how dangerous this place is there was no use in further splitting our numbers.

A few bats were slashed by each of us, they were dropping like flies but so was our energy.

"Clean water ahead!" Undine suddenly shouted.

The darkness ahead lit by Loki had shown we had come to a dead end. A massive crater with a deep pit in front of us where the sewer had seemed to exploded.

"Bats behind us a hole ahead what do we do?!" Bel said with uncertainty.

"Jump! There is water!" Undine said before he looked at as all and took a running head start.

He lept without a second thought!

Loki looked down and followed shortly behind.

"I don't like this!" Bel said we a shake of her head.

There was no longer any time the bats had caught up. I grabbed Bels had and jumped off the cliff into the abyss below.

[If your wrong about this Undine… I will curse you in the next life!]
