In a land where there are many supernatural beings of all types and sizes, there is one that remains the unofficial king. HUMANS.
Although humans have the weakest form, magic courses through their blood that they use to help grow other supernaturals strength and speed. That's why there are blood contracts that can bind humans to the supernaturals of their choosing. The more magic is in their blood the better effect it has on the supernatural.
"It can make a small fox the size of a dragon with incredible strength and speed if they have a strong human by their side. However, most humans have too little magic in their blood for such a thing to work well enough to make a significant difference."
My teacher said.
Teacher I thought More like tortuous little bi…
I pulled away from the thought. That was something that could get me a week in the Basement. Most supernaturals don't survive the Basement, only a couple stronger individuals, if they're lucky.
Then again, I was considered one of the stronger ones, but I shuddered at the thought of being trapped in the basement. the only good thing about the surviving the Basement is that you become crazy strong after getting out.
"Now," The teacher continued, "We have found some humans with magical blood. the students are allowed to fight to lay claim on whichever they choose . The Tournament for the Humans has now begun!"
There was greed and lust in the eyes of many of the students. After all, the only ones that ever escaped from this place had to challenge one of the school's teachers and win to be granted their freedom. But that was very rare because the teachers of The Dark Academy were old and simply too strong for the young students.
Looking around, I saw the staff laying down mats on the ground, preparing for the upcoming Tournament
. This was a large school so the mats were only for the earlier matches to get the weak ones out of the way, before entering the real rings.
"Oh, and I forgot to tell you that you have to fight in your human forms," Recalled the announcer.
She hopped off of the stage and went to one of the many mats to be the judge.
Everyone else was freaking out about the fact that we had to fight in our human forms. Even then, we were stronger than the normal humans, but were nowhere near as strong while in our true forms.
Besides that, most of us never trained as humans. I had of course, because sometimes certain circumstances called for being human. That meant that I had the advantage in both of my skins.
Most of the students chose to rush forward towards the mats like blind fools. There were only a couple others who chose to stay behind and watch.
Seeing the morons, the judges face's pulled into frowns. Watching their expressions was sometimes deceiving, so I looked them in eyes, revealing twisted amusement. My gut swirled in disgust.
The halls were soon filled with the sounds of shouting and bones snapping. Over two hours passed by and most of my weaker peers had been defeated; and the top students started to step forward.
Another two hours passed and many of the rings had no more challengers, but that was until I stepped forward. When I stepped by the people in the rings paled, and whispers erupted.
"It's her! It's Scarlet." said someone in the crowd.
"I thought that she wasn't going to participate." Someone screeched, fear laced in her tone.
"Of course she would. She just didn't want to move and fight the weak ones. It's not worth her time." Replied another.
I ignored the crowd as well as the excitement on the faces of the judges. I walked randomly onto one of the mats and the person across from me tried to put on a tough face. He had an impressive mask but his whole body was shaking like a scared leaf.
I didn't feel like trying to hurt him, as I was feeling lazy. I stared him in the eyes. He started to take a step back, one after the other, terrified out of his wits. He didn't even notice when he was at the edge of the mats and fell off the small one foot height.
With him gone I walked to the center and sat down criss-cross and closed my eyes in peace.
'Soon', I thought, 'Soon after I win this competition and I can drink the blood of the magical humans. I'll be strong enough to leave this wretched school.'
Maybe after saying this for over 200 years a part of me finally believed that. I was no longer the little hatchling dragon that had been kidnapped and weak.
'Soon.'
