Chapter 11 - Literally watching grass grow

Alice wakes up rather excited this morning, quickly getting up and dropping the blanket on the floor, as she runs out the door she finds Isaac is already awake just reading his book again.

Alice sighs as she walks up to him "Do you always wake up early or do you just never have to sleep or something?"

Isaac closes the book and puts it away with a sigh "Sleep is for the weak kid, speaking of weak you're going to figure out how to invoke your element by yourself today, however i will give you something that should help you figuring it out, can't have you depending on me all the time now"

Alice rolls her eyes a bit and waves dismissively to him "Yeah yeah I can handle it, I unlocked magic on my own anyway didn't I?"

Isaac reaches into his bottomless bag and pulls out another small bag that clacks with the sound of what seems to be rocks inside "And yet you barely managed that kid, now then you're getting this bag, after that you're on your own for this exercise" he holds out the bag towards her.

Alice grabs the bag from him with a raised brow, she peers inside and pulls out small and al differently colored little stones "So what are these supposed to be anyway"

Isaac lays back on a reclining chair that once again just appears out of nowhere and pulls a bound journal out along with a quill and begins flipping through it "Mess around and find out kid you're on your own remember, or are you giving up already?"

Alice glares daggers at him before she storms off, heading towards the carriage she sits outside on the frost covered grass and dumps out all the stones. A bit puzzled she organizes them in a row, each one has it's own color but they seem to be polished to a nice and shiny egg shape each, ten of them in total. Individually Alice picks each one of them up, they all seem to weigh the same and the surfaces seem to be the same, "So I guess the colors mean something?". she picks up the blue stone and holds it in her hand, as she turns it and lets the sunlight shine on it's surface she can see small details that form on it and quickly disappear, the light that goes through it seem distorted and sparkle like sunlight passing through... "Water?". She turns to look and her intuition seems confirmed, the red stone seems to have melted some of the frosty dew around it, she nods as she puts the blue one down "Some kind of elemental stones... meaning that" She picks up a blue-cyan stone and a pure white one "Meaning these two must be lightning and life!". Her smug grin at her ability to figure out the 'puzzle' starts to fade as her brow furrows into a frustrated stare again "Okay but what do I do with them now...?"

Alice thinks for a while, she picks up the one that's least likely to kill her, with the white stone in hand she thinks back to the candle from before, holding it between her index and her thumb she lets out a deep breath and slowly lets mana pour into the stone. Unlike the candle this time the results are pretty easy, the stone glows with a faint white light, Alice looks at it for a while ".... yep it's definitely glowing... now what?" She thinks for a bit before looking down at the grass, out of curiosity she places the glowing egg there and waits.... and waits.... and wa-"Okay I'm not going to sit here and literally watch grass grow, let's hurry this up". She pokes the egg with her finger and lets more of her mana flow into it, focusing a bit she watches intently. The egg glows brighter and brighter and just as she starts to feel as if she's starting to struggle there's a twitch, there was no breeze but the grass is moving, slowly she watches as the leaves get broader and taller, she pulls her hand back and watches it unfold. By the time the egg's light fade and the grass stops growing in roughly ten seconds the grass around the stone was about twice the thickness and height surrounding it, it was also a much darker green too. "Holy shit that's... actually really awesome... what about the other one?" She excitedly turns her attention to the other stone she picked out and holds it tightly in her hand, this time she opts to start slow again just in case, as she focuses her mana into the palm of her hand, just a bit of it this time to test it out. Quickly she feels an odd tingle on her skin as light pops and crackles of static is heard above her, looking up she can't help but giggle a bit as her lengthy red hair now seems to be all standing perfectly on end, she runs her free hand through it and feels the static tingle in her fingers "heheh, wow this is so stupid I love it" She turns to Isaac and yells out rather excitedly "guess my first spell was to turn myself into a sea urchin huh Isaac?".

Isaac doesn't even look up from his book as he replies "Doing good kid just keep going, you almost got it"

Alice's smile dies down a bit as she looks back to the stone in her hand, seems like she's not done here yet, it doesn't take long for her to process that she needs to be able to create electricity without using the stone like Isaac did with fire. "Sorcerers learn by doing..." she looks at the stone in her hand and starts to focus more mana into it, even just a bit more causes her to wince as she feels the electricity run through her, the feeling of the muscles in her hands forcibly tightening starts to burn and cramp in a rather uncomfortable manner. Her arm down to her elbow start to feel numb but she doesn't stop, raising her other hand she watches as the sparks jump between her fingers causing involuntary twitches as loud cracks sound out. "R-remember the feeling...." she cranks it up a bit more causing her to nearly fall over as her entire right arm tightens up forcibly, gritting her teeth through the pain she mumbles out "C-c-capture the f-feeling a-and....". With a quick switch she stops focusing her mana into the stone and pours it quickly down her raised left arm to her open hand "Release it!" a loud whip-like C R A C K echoes out causing both Isaac and Slipstream to quickly look at Alice who stands there with her left hand raised with smoke rising from her fingers and shimmers of static jumping between her fingers, panting a bit from the effort Alice's smile is unbroken as she looks at her hand, watching the static dancing... oh and her now electrical burnt and smoking fingertips as well, after a few seconds manages to eek out a rather raspy and strained... "O-ouch...".
