The room of 1217 became famous among the caretakers. It was said that the current subject, a kid who just turned 13 completed the whole pain tolerance test up to the last level which was said to be most painful of all.
Despite the achievements, the subject's body was haggard. The room was now littered with different machine tasked to kept his organs from failing all together.
That being said, his brain's memory region was damaged as well however...
His consciousness was still there, his body was crippled but his mind stayed the same. It was a miracle according to Dr. Henry himself.
The data Mitch provided in these test was enormous enough for them to disregard the actual project. It was already a success even if they fail.
It took them awhile to consider the future of 1217. To keep him as a live reference or to risk losing him in the impossible experiment.
It took days and alot of argument but in the end, Dr. Henry spoke. To continue, he said.
....
"Have you heard? Today is the day."
"Ofcourse I've heard! The 2nd wing was locked down, all other experimentation was transferred to the other wings specially in ours! It's suffocating down there!"
Two caretakers who were tasked to watch over the orphans felt lucky. During times like these, accidents are inevitable which then results into casualties.
The kids were oblivious to the fact that hell was literally just underneath and the gates to it is the only thing they want to enter. The 'Happy Future' doors.
....
"Are we really proceeding with the project?"
Two young-looking caretakers whispered back and forth. They walked the hallway of the 2nd wing. It was empty unlike the last time Mitch walked through it. The other rooms were spick and span just like an abnormally large dentist room.
Continuing on, they reached the room near 1217. They were late as Dr. Henry was already briefing his team.
"It's good we can observe the one and only Dr. Henry work! And in an impossible project nonetheless!" Excitement was evident in his voice.
"By the way, Warren, exactly why is the project impossible?"
"Kelly... are you drunk? How can you forget about such a crucial information?!" Warren looked annoyed.
'Why are you even hear then?' He thought.
"Ofcourse, I know why but isn't it better to exchange insights right now? We won't get a chance later because we would be too focused!" As if he was wronged, Kelly replied.
Watching through a tv screen, they listened intently while going through debate after debate, arguing and exchanging notes.
....
Inside the room 1217...
"What we are creating today, will no longer be human. We are making something beyond that, something higher than ourselves. This will be a turning point of our species! What we are creating is a divine being! We are going to be the creators of the future!" Dr. Henry gave his speech. He was wearing his casual lab coat, a face mask, gloves and lab goggles.
There were far more people in the room. About 15 more making it 25 people in one room.
"We'll start at 0900, until then, clear up your unfinished business." Dr. Henry walked off.
The others started preparing. There was only about half an hour left before the experiment begins.
Meanwhile back at the seperate room, both Warren and Kelly were still bumping heads.
Suddenly, the door opened and a man entered. Silence. The man was Dr. Henry, their idol!
"Dr. Henry! I am Warren, new addition to the group. Apprentice of Gosnk Aldn!"
"Sir! My name's Kelly, also an Apprentice of Gosnk Aldn!"
They stood up and bowed.
"Kukuku, so how is my good friend doing?" He laughed.
"Sadly, he is in bad shape.. time has seeped deep into his bones, he only has a year before..." Kelly answered with a pained expression.
The room fell into silence once more as the atmosphere turned sour.
Dr. Henry sighed and said-
"Time is cruel, we oldies will soon return to dust. Just like Gosnk, I have my foot on my grave, it's all just a matter of time.
Gosnk and Henry were colleagues. Gosnk went down the path of righteousness. His goal was to heal, cure and fix people. Still, he had made sacrifices to prove his theories and test them. Despite Henry going on a more devillish path, it didn't hinder their friendly relationship, in fact, it even strengthened it!
Having his friend's apprentices here, he planned to treat them like how he treats their mentor. He would also pass down his knowledge to them and make them as aspiring as they were right now.
"So how many had died since this 'orphanage' was built?" Kelly face morphed. His warm persona vanished as his cruel personality surfaced. From that point onward, the conversation gone dark. Both Kelly and Warren might have been upstanding scientists and doctors aiming for a better future, their method were established upon bloodbath.
Inheriting, Gosnk's two-faced nature, both of them were like wolves in sheep's clothing. Henry, Gosnk, Kelly and Warren, all of them had twisted personalities and ideologies.
