I had to travel for a while, as the Dead Trees around Apium were mostly cut. The weird thing was, that although loads of trees were cut, there were new trees growing out as well. 'It seems that either Atols plant them somehow, or these trees can grow by themselves' I thought. I had no tools, such as saws and so on. Those were borrowed from Ama, and I couldn't do that anymore.
'This isn't a problem for me though' I thought, and took out the large, and heavy sword. 'I need to name this thing somehow. Hmmm… Edgeless Sword should be alright' I thought, and chopped at the trees. With the Formation, that increased the weight, as well as my strength, the trees were chopped down without a problem. I then cleaned up the trunks, and made something similar to the beams, that were sold in Apium.
'I can't really transport that much stuff without a cart. I should've thought about it, before I came here' I thought. There were two solutions, I could either bo back, and bring a cart. It would take me some time, but it was the easiest option. I could also build a cart myself. Shape some wheels, make some planks and so on. Although it wouldn't be easy with the lack of tools, it was not impossible.
'Either way, I will waste time, so why not build my own cart then? I can use it however I like, as it will be mine. I don't know, if Atols would allow me to leave with a cart just like that' I thought, and started building a cart. I knew how this things looked like, the problem was, how to make one function, just like the ones I saw.
'Yea. Shaping it, is not such a problem. The problem is, that the wheels need some metal elements, that will allow the wheels to spin… I have the materials, but not the tools, or furnace to make them… Hmmm' I thought. I had to abandon the cart plan, and do something else. 'Well, I didn't train anything in a while, so I will just drag those things with me' I thought, and tied a few of the logs together, then placed the rest of them on top. 'This will look weird, but whatever. I have some distance to go, so I might as well move already' I thought, and started pulling the ropes attached to the logs.
That thing was heavy, very heavy. Not only were there around 30 trees on that construction, I also dragged it along with me. The weight, and lack of wheels made it very exhausting. I stopped after a while, and took a break. 'This will take much more, than I anticipated. Well hopefully, I can arrive back in one day' I thought.
I wasn't that far away from Apium, but still. I dragged the damned thing through the wilderness, until I finally arrived in front of Apium. I was exhausted to the point, I didn't want to go any further. "Haaah… Haaah.. I will… just rest here… for a while" I said out loud, as I was catching my breath. It took me a few good hours, just to get to the place I was currently at. I made regular stops, and ate a lot of my food. I had very little left, and would need to either buy some, or go hunting. I rested for a while, then ate some more food. With all that done, I dragged the wood behind me forwards.
The Atols that saw me drag the logs, were quite stunned to say the least. Some even commented, and wondered why I was doing it. I ignored those comments, and dragged the logs straight to my field. When I finally arrived at my field, I dropped the ropes, and collapsed onto my ass. 'I don't think, I want do that again' I thought, and sat there resting.
To my surprise, Ulon came over after a while, and asked "Why did you drag all of that wood here? Are you that bored?". I replied "I wasn't sure, if I could borrow a cart from here, and take it outside. So I dragged this with me. It was a good training anyway". Ulon shook his head, and said "If you want to borrow a cart, just do so. Besides, why did you bring all that wood over here? You already have a fence".
I replied "I want to improve the watering process. Instead of spending most of my day, on watering the herbs. I want to make it, so that all the herbs are watered in a matter of minutes". Ulon was intrigued, and asked "How do you want to do that?". I replied "Well, it's not that simple. I have to build channels of varying sizes, then use that to deliver water to the whole field". Ulon asked "But different herbs, need different amounts of water. The time frame is also different". I said "Yes, that is exactly why, I need to use channels that differ in sizes. Smaller channels will fill up faster, and can be used to water the herbs, that need to be watered everyday. While bigger channels, will hold more water, and will deliver it to herbs that need to be watered every few days".
Ulon exclaimed "That's genius! But there is one more problem. You will need a specific way to deliver the water. For example, Night Safis needs to be watered gently, while Earth Grabbing Sprout, needs a concentrated source of water". I said "Yes, I'm aware of that. This will be difficult, but can be accomplished. I don't have all the details yet, but I want to test stuff out. For that, I needed wood".
Ulon nodded, and said "If you manage to accomplish that, then we can adapt that system, and use it on our fields. Tell me, if you need anything. This is worth investing in". I said "I need skilled craftsmen, which you don't have. None of them, will come here to work either". He was a bit stunned, and asked "Why? If you pay them, they will work for you". I shook my head, and said "Not for me".
Ulon realised something, and asked seriously "What happened?". I said "You know the guy Oran?". He nodded, and said "Yes, I know what you mean now. This is indeed troublesome. Can you do it by yourself then?" I said "Yes. I can do it, but it will take a long time. I have to water my field still, and.." before I could finish, Ulon interrupted "Don't worry about the field then. We can do it for you, and you just focus on that thing of yours. If you can create it, and I believe you can, all of us here can benefit. Watering the fields, takes a long time, if we could shorten it, then we wouldn't have to work so hard, and relax a bit".
I nodded my head, and said "If you can water my field, then I can work on that a lot longer, and make progress faster. You have a deal. When I'm done, you will be able to use the same method, for the rest of your fields". He nodded as well, and said "Deal".
That day, Ulon and his subordinates, took care of my field, while I rested before working on the channels. I had to created different sizes, and even shapes. I wanted to experiment at a larger scale, to make my progress faster. But that would begin from the next day. I had to rest after such exercise.
