Chapter 7 - Inspect

As the counter was ticking away, Jack repeated inspect in his mind and even out loud with no reaction. He smirked and looked at the countdown going 4,3,2,1, and in a flash, he was back.

Jack looked around, and he was at the exact same place as he was before with two police officers and the lab technicians being just a couple of meters in front of him passing his front door.

As he looked at one of the officers, he noticed a blue silhouette on him and a line with a row of text attached. He read the text which said, "Turn off inspect outline" and the outline disappeared. He quickly said, "turn on inspect outline" in his mind, and it reappeared again.

Next thing he said was, "inspect" and a window similar to his status window was displayed.

Name: Sgt. George Murphy

Constitution:7

Endurance:6

On the right side of the window was an image with Officer Murphy with additional boxes showing he was carrying a taser and a Glock 9mm.

Jack repeated the inspect command, and it turned off. He switched his view and looked at the other officer. Inspect.

Another window appeared.

Name: Sgt. Johnny Mazza

Strength: 7

Constitution:5

Endurance:7

On the right side of the window was an image with Officer Mazza with a SIG Sauer P226 Legion Semi-Automatic Pistol with .40 S&W ammo and also carrying a taser.

He had to admit the numbers looked quite right to him. He judged by charisma since most of the talking was done with Sgt. Mazza who looked a lot more friendly than Sgt. Murphy. He could not tell the difference in their strength or other attributes since they didn't do anything that would require their effort.

Jack almost started screaming then.

"Oh my god it's getting worse. I am already treating it as if it were something real," Jack yelled inside his head instead since he didn't want to visit the cuckoo's nest.

He waited until the technicians finished looking around the crime scene and lifting prints including his own. They explained they needed his to eliminate them from the collected ones.

As they were leaving Jack inspected one of them.

Name: Lu Song

Willpower:5

He didn't have any weapons, so the boxes were empty but what made Jack upset is this seemingly weak Asian had better strength and dexterity as himself.

"I guess I need to start working out," Jack thought to himself.

The officers gave him some documents to sign and their contact number for any follow-up leads and also left.

Jack went back into his house, closed the door and went to his bedroom. He took off his clothes and crashed into his bed. It did not take him more than a minute before he was already sleeping.

As he woke up almost 8 hours later, he experienced a bout of hunger since had not eaten anything other than airplane food for more than 14 hours.

He went to his fridge and looked at its contents and decided to order Chinese delivery. As he waited for his food to be delivered, he checked his online bank on his phone. He had approximately 8000 $ left. He bled money in the last two days, but he didn't care. He could always make more.

He was finally rid of debt, and he was well known as an expert in programming and cybersecurity. Making money was no longer a hassle for him like it has been at the start. What he regretted the most was the loss of seemingly unimportant stuff that reminded him of his parents.

His parents were good to him while they were alive and he loved them. They indulged him in his hobbies and paid attention to his problems. The only fault he could find with them was his father's naive attitude towards money. Especially problematic was how he played in the stock market and used up his trust fund first and when that was not enough he even mortgaged their home. After his father's death, he inherited that debt, and it took him a long time to clear it.

He went online with his mobile phone and looked at the psychiatrist offices close by, and the went to an online store and bought himself a laptop so he could continue with his business.

He made an appointment in 3 hours at a mental health clinic. The food he ordered was delivered by a biker, and he ate it happily.

He was dreading a visit to the clinic, but still, he considered it the best option, so he called a taxi and got changed his clothes.

The taxi drove him in front of the clinic, and he walked in. He was led to the office of Dr. Angel Sherman by the receptionist. He expected a woman, but it was a man in his forties.

As he sat in the chair, Jack was asked by the doctor a lot of questions about why he thought he needed help.

He didn't want to explain a lot of details, so he just mentioned that images flash in front of his eyes. Jack also revealed that he has hallucinations sometimes of wearing augmented reality glasses even though he was obviously not wearing any. The doctor listened and asked for an explanation, and Jack had to explain what augmented reality means.

It was a new term describing how you can overlay computer-generated information and imagery with special glasses on reality.

As he was finishing his explanation, he said inspect in his mind.

Name: Dr. Angel Sherman

Strength: 3

Constitution:4

Endurance:3

Speed:4

Dexterity:3

Perception:3

Intelligence:4

Wisdom:3

Willpower:3

Charisma:8

Luck: ???

As he looked at these stats on the floating window, he looked at the silver-haired doctor and thought to himself, "How the fuck did you finish med school with such a low intellect?"

Jack lost all hope of getting any good result from the treatment this quack will subscribe. He left the office cordially soon after and went back home.

As he had nothing to do, he started making squats and push-ups since he was extremely annoyed with his physical stats.
