Chereads / MIMI / Chapter 190 - Avoidance

Chapter 190 - Avoidance

For the last few days, Mimi had noticed something unusual. Ever since the night she planned to sleep at Tobias's house for a second night, he suddenly began distancing himself from her.

After Tobias came out of the bathroom that night, he had asked her to leave. Stunned, it took Mimi a while to respond before she agreed and left.

The following day, Mimi called Tobias to schedule lunch, but Juno informed her that he was busy. Thinking nothing of it at the time, Mimi disregarded it.

However, another three tries and Tobias still refused to see her. His assistant, Juno, forwarded all of his messages. Mimi wasn't a fool. She knew when someone was avoiding her - she was the master of it.

But why was Tobias avoiding her?

Did she do something that upset him that night?

Ah! Perhaps when he threw up that night, it wasn't because of the vitamins but because of her tea!

The more Mimi thought, the gloomier she felt.

Inside the secret warehouse, Mimi absently stared at the bright laptop screen. When Shen Jue came back with lunch, the girl's cheeks were flushed and her eyes were bright. Her lips were pouting in frustration.

Although it was very cute, it was clear she was troubled about something.

Shen Jue's eyes darkened, but he concealed it very well. When he raised his eyes once again, they were shining with that same old sunny glint in them.

"Take a break and eat some lunch."

Mimi tapped a laptop key aggressively, her brows furrowed. She shifted her head to the containers of food Shen Jue unpacked on the table.

Ordinarily, at the sight of food, she felt nothing but thrilled. Yet at that moment, her mood only seemed to worsen.

Sighing, Mimi stands up and walks to the table full of food. With a smile on his face, Shen Jue swiftly places the girl's favorite foods on her plate. She viewed everything coldly, her eyes never bearing a single trace of emotion.

"What's wrong?" Shen Jue cocked his head to the side, a small frown on his lips.

Mimi glanced at Shen Jue faintly. She reverted her gaze to the food and picked up her chopsticks.

"It's fine." She muttered.

Shen Jue stared at her, his eyes dim. Laughing softly, he rolled up his sleeves to reveal lean, white arms. As his long fingers held his chopsticks delicately, Mimi couldn't help but be drawn to his arms.

Although there wasn't a lot of muscle, his arms still looked strong and lean. From his long and slender fingers, it was clear he took care of himself. They were perfect, baby soft and smooth, like an infant.

His hands were like porcelain! Nobody possessed hands like that anymore, people had calluses and scars, but his hands were clear!

If he wanted, he could be a hand model!

But…his hands and arms were the opposite of Tobias's.

Tobias was a tall man. His skin, a light tan, and fingers that were thick and rough revealing his lack of care. They felt like sandpaper or perhaps stone, rough and unfinished.

They were callused and raw, showing he had a difficult life and worked twice as hard for everything he had.

Despite this, his touch was always warm and gentle.

When he grasped his large hand in hers, he acted as if she'd suddenly break. It was as if he was a large bear stroking a small kitten.

As her thoughts drifted off to Tobias, Shen Jue had noticed the girl's stare from the corner of his vision.

For the past few days, her emotions were not easily suppressed on her innocent face. Her distress was evident in the crease of her lovely brow and the down-curve of her pink lips.

But her eyes, they looked livelier. They were a deep pool of restless violet and hopeless grief.

He despised it.

Shen Jue just took a few bites before immediately putting down his chopsticks.

"Mind if I ask why the little one is looking at my arms so intensely?"

When she realized she had fallen into thought while staring at Shen Jue's arms, Mimi stiffened up as she was unable to refute that.

Mimi did not even bother looking at the man sitting as she chewed. "I just thought you had nice fingers."

An eyebrow on Shen Jue's face lifted, the dazzling smile never once leaving his face, obviously amused by the girl's words.

"Is that so? I have to say I feel rather flattered." He chuckled.

"Mm. They look like a woman's hands." Mimi said as she slowly lifted her eyes, the icy gaze sweeping over the smiling man.

While Mimi's expression held her usual smiles, her eyes flicked with a trace of scorn. Sure enough, Shen Jue just looked at her smilingly.

"Haha, thank you for the compliment!" He replied with his signature smile still hanging on his face.

Having wanted to see Shen Jue's smiling expression crack, Mimi was once again disappointed to see nothing changed in that beaming attractive face. He sat there, still, with his heated gaze on her and lazy disposition as before.

Mimi's mocking smiles unknowingly faded at the man's expression. A quiet frown formed on her face.

Clicking her tongue, Mimi glanced away from him to bring a piece of glazed chicken to her mouth. As the orange chicken touched the tip of her tongue, Mimi froze.

This chicken…was too flavorless!

Unlike Tobias's chicken. Every bite burst with flavor and it possessed the precise amount of crispiness on the outside!

A dark and gloomy vibe filled the air as Mimi stuffed food in her mouth. Shen Jue's eyes swept over Mimi, a hidden glint in their depths.

"I hear Lee Odo is hosting an event this week. Apparently many influential figures will be attending."

Mimi nodded.

"That includes the entire Hirogori family." He smiled coldly, and his beautiful face bore a trace of wickedness.

Mimi's eyes flickered, although she tried her best not to be affected by this news, she could not control her body's light trembling. Unconsciously she smiled, bending her eyes.

"Oh? Well, isn't that convenient." Mimi's voice turned soft, her eyes flashing a chilly glint.

Shen Jue laughed lightly and propped his chin in his palm, as he stared at Mimi with his head tilted.

"Indeed. So, what do you plan to do?"

Mimi's eyes instantly turned to frost and the corners of her mouth curled up into a chilling smile.

"Isn't it obvious?" She arched a brow, a smirk on her lips. "I plan to give my lovely family a little party gift. What do you think?"

Shen Jue's mouth maintained a faint smile as he looked at her with a bemused expression.

"Whatever the little one wants to do, I will follow you."

The corner of her lips twitched as she resisted the urge to roll her eyes at his words. Turning back to her food, Mimi's mind had long forgotten her previous gloom.

All her thoughts were occupied with the chance at revenge.

She was almost there. She was slowly becoming closer and closer to getting her revenge!

As she ate, Mimi's brows unconsciously furrowed.

"By the way, don't get food from this place anymore. The food is too bland." Mimi said but still chewed on her food.

Shen Jue chuckled and nodded his head. "I will remember that."

Mimi sounded a hum and faintly added, "And include a side of vegetables in my orders from now on."

Shen Jue was stunned as his lips curled up. "Hmm? Don't you hate vegetables? Since when did you take an interest in them?"

Mimi widened her eyes as her face turned stiff; she fell into a daze. Only after a long time, did she recover her voice.

She said softly, "It was only recently. Besides, they don't taste as bad as I remembered. I don't mind them anymore."

Shen Jue raised a brow, his chin propped on his palm while his fingers covered his lips. He had stared at the girl eating for a while before he sighed softly.

"How vexing." The gentle whisper slipped through his fingers.

"Hmm?" Mimi tilted her head with stuffed cheeks.

Blinking his eyes, Shen Jue chuckled and passed the girl a napkin.

"It's nothing, just thinking of a few plans of my own to use at the event."

Mimi swallowed and took the napkin to dab her cheeks. When she finished, she reached for more food and continued to eat, neglecting the mysterious look in Shen Jue's eyes.
