Chapter 159 - Bitter Feelings

The next few days passed, until the day of her 'date' with Emilia Yimo arrived. As she was preparing to leave and meet Emilia, Mimi received a message from Shen Jue.

Knowing the creepy bastard would only message her if the matter was important, Mimi called Emilia informing her she'd meet her at the event.

Taking her suit, Mimi called a car to drive her to their usual meetup – the warehouse. Arriving at her destination, Mimi walked into the lounge room and saw Shen Jue quietly waiting for her.

He sat lazily by a clear window looking outside to stare at the view, his dark eyes tinged with an unusual look. Mimi entered to witness this exact scene.

What the hell was he gazing at? There was nothing but dead trees and wrecked vehicles!

"What's the matter?" Mimi asked upon entering.

Shen Jue shifted his head slowly, his gaze falling upon the figure of Mimi. A gentle smile came upon his face. "Ah little one, you're here. How wonderful!"

His peaceful eyes gazed back outside and marveled at the view.

"Look at the scenery, isn't it perfectly hideous?"

Mimi: "…"

He turned back to Mimi and flashed her a bright, foolish grin. "In terms of murky darkness, the decaying trees give such a lonely, abandoned feeling. It sets one's mind at ease, don't you think?"

Mimi: "..." What the fuck is this creepy bastard talking about?

Mimi acted as if she did not notice the man's blooming, gentle expression and flashed a contemptuous smile.

"Seeing how you're sitting rather casually by that dreary scenery, I'm assuming you have nothing to do. But unlike someone, I have plans later. So, if you could get to the point, I'd gratefully appreciate it."

Shen Jue's mouth slightly raised, so that the smile on his face became more gentle and sincere. He stood up and came to stand in front of Mimi.

"That's what I wanted to discuss with you about. That event you're going to later with the Miss Yimo - it looks like your brother Seth is also attending."

"Oh?" Mimi's glittering eyes dimmed.

Shen Jue said with a laugh. "Mm. Just thought I'd inform you."

"I see."

Mimi fell into deep thought and quietly lowered her head.

So her half-brother Seth was also attending?

Out of all her brothers, Seth could be considered the most incompetent. He was arrogant, hot-tempered and hardly cared for family affairs.

Mimi remembered during the time her sister was alive, Seth was the most ruthless. Like her father, he looked down on women and only believed for them to serve by a man's side.

With her sister competing for the head of the family business, she was bound to receive Seth's jealously. When Mimi thought of this, her mouth pulled upwards, revealing a twisted smile.

Shen Jue watched her expression quietly. He stretched out his hand to smooth out the creases between her brows. The moment Mimi felt his touch, her eyes widened in alarm before she slapped his hand away.

"What are you doing?"

"You're so mean." Shen Jue shook his stinging hand. "You looked a little tense. So I thought to give you a little head massage."

Mimi's face immediately darkened and she shivered. She took a few steps away from the man and scrutinized him suspiciously.

"By the way…How are you getting this information?"

Though she knew he was considered close to her father, he still wasn't one to share personal information.

Just what sort of resources and skills did this creepy bastard possess?

"Oh? Are you curious?" Shen Jue chuckled, his body leaning forward.

Mimi felt another chill run down her spine and she stepped back even further. "Will you even tell me if I ask?"

Shen Jue's expression changed a little but his smile remained. He truthfully replied, "Haha, you're right, I won't. It's a secret."

Mimi felt the corner of her lips twitch.

This creepy bastard…if he wasn't going to tell her then why even bother leaving an option?

Mumbling curses under her breath, Mimi stole Shen Jue a glance but quickly turned to leave.

"Huh? Where are you going?"

Mimi swung her gaze over to Shen Jue and said: "I'm getting changed here. Don't peek."

Shen Jue blinked his eyes dramatically before bursting out into laughter. "I won't, I won't! Don't worry, go ahead and get ready. Don't want to keep Miss Yimo waiting."

Mimi scowled and stuck her tongue out at the man, not noticing his darkening gaze when she turned to leave. His eyes wandered to her leaving figure and smiled self-mockingly.

He looked down at the hand Mimi struck and sighed. "The little one still bares her fangs."

After getting dressed, Mimi walked into the room, smoothing out the nonexistent wrinkles on her pure white coat. Shen Jue looked up from his laptop and suddenly arched a brow.

The always teasing, mischievous girl at the moment had her hair meticulously combed back, revealing her extremely gorgeous features.

Her dazzling purple eyes were replaced by a pair of bright green contacts, the faintest hue of purple still present. She was dressed gentle and elegant with a trace of sharp arrogance.

"Well don't you look handsome? I'm sure all the women there will be fawning over you."

Mimi tilted her head, suddenly blooming a provocative smile she says, "That's the plan."

Shen Jue chuckled and watched as the girl struggled to tie the silk fabric around her neck.

He placed his laptop aside and walked over to the girl. "Even after all these years of wearing suits, you still don't know how to tie it."

Mimi quirked up an eyebrow, her cheeks slightly puffed out. "You make it seem as if it's a bad thing."

"Mm, you're right it's not. I was just teasing you." He chuckled and reached out his hands.

Mimi retracted a little but stopped before allowing him to tie it for her. Shen Jue saw her movements and helplessly smiled.

"I see you still bear some hatred towards me."

Mimi looked up at him with scornful eyes, her lips curling into a sneer. "Oh? Did you expect me not to after everything you've done?"

Shen Jue tilted his head curiously. "What is it that I've done?"

Mimi was no longer in a generous mood, her smile receded a little, and she coldly looked into the other's eyes.

"You took her away from me."

Shen Jue's actions came to a halt, he looked down at those frosty eyes and stared blankly. Mimi had paid no mind to his blank appearance and looked down to see he had finished tying her tie. She stepped to the side and neatly flattened it out.

"I'll be leaving now."

Without stealing him a single glance, she turned her heels and left. Shen Jue stood in silence and bore a dull expression. After a while, his lips curled into a sneer.

"I never thought love could be so frightening. Amazing."
