Once the first team left to start working on the inner wall, we took the next step. That was to have a clear grasp of the situation. Even if Rose and Dante were the most reliable sources of information in Green Shelter I already clearly stated that they weren't going to be leaving the city any time soon.
Most people knew about my deal with Dr. Harting, so they knew that didn't have any way to force me, and if they try it would only create a conflict between us and the situation would be a lot more severe without me here. Milo broke the silence.
"We need to send other scouts then. They can take cover in the edge of the city, in the west is not a great difference, but if they manage to get some additional information about what is going on in the east, it will help us to be ready a lot of time before the east invasion arrives."
The people were selected from between the ranks of the hunting teams, one of the was a team leader and will go to the east. They weren't that special, but they were fast, and with some tools, they could keep an eye on the situation and escape if something happens. Milo would have been a great candidate, but with Leon working on the wall he needed to stay in Green Shelter.
After receiving the orders in their minds, the scouts came to the school right away, and Milo left to explain the situation and coordinate them. All the team leaders were also awakened and ordered to go to the HQ, and wait for instructions.
Milo was going to the HQ to explain everything after talking with the scouts.
Once we Milo left the conversation changed towards moving people to the inner walls. Since there were people that live in between the outer and inner wall, there was a need for them to be moved inside for their safety.
There was a little law enforcement group that was independent of the hunting teams, the leader was the secretary of the police chief Stanley Benton. He was the one that organizes and did most of the administrative part of the chief's job, so even if he wasn't a police officer, he had the respect of them and knew how to act. The law enforcement was mainly composed by previous police officers that didn't get a power to join the Hunting teams, or they didn't want to risk their lives doing it.
He arrived shortly after Milo left and we explained him the situation, with the support of some people of the hunting teams we gave him the task of maintaining order during the evacuation.
He was worthy of being a chief and seemed used to emergency situations. Without getting nervous, he started to tell us the people that were under his command. Since this was in coordination with the Hunting team, they were summoned to the hunting team HQ.
When the evacuation of the outer wall started, we needed places for the people to stay in the meantime. We don't know how long they will need to be there so certain elements, like blankets supplies and other necessities, need to be available for them while they stay there. For this, the people from the warehouse, logistics, and other related areas were called and instructed directly by Mr. D'Aurora.
The school, an abandoned warehouse, a basketball court, and some other places were going to be used as temporary shelters. The law enforces from Benton were planned to take people there and be sure that nothing happens.
Unlike the law enforcers or the hunting teams, the people from the warehouse, logistics, and other average jobs were more fragile, we needed to be careful with them.
The last thing we need is a grocer running around spreading the panic before the real evacuation even began. It took a while, but the law enforcers helped escort them, and soon everything was ready for the actual evacuation to start.
Despite the lack of preparation most people that were necessary for this to work was already on it before the sunrise. All of this was thanks to Dante's help. After that, we left the conference room and spread around Green Shelter to be sure that the situation goes smoothly.
…
Since there are no clocks, most people wake up with the sunrise, and that is the signal of the beginning of the day.
Today was different, as soon as someone awakens they received a message from Dante.
It was a standard instruction for everyone, people knew that something was not right, but after receiving the message, they couldn't communicate back with him. The message told them to take some food and anything important to them. After that, they need to follow the instructions of the law enforcers and hunting teams that are coordinating everything on the streets.
I was in the outer zone and was informing the people about the situation. From an apartment, a guy in a suit left his house followed by a boy that should be about Dana's age.
"Sir where are you going?"
"I have to drop my son at school and then go to work."
"Didn't you heard your message?"
The kid at his side jumped happily.
"I told you that we should have listened to Professor Cat!!"
"Don't listen to him, he thinks that the voice sounded the same as a talking cat."
I could only smirk as I remember the helpless face that Dante did when he tried to teach Dana's class. This boy was likely there at the time so recognized Dante's voice. I tried to explain the situation to him
"I don't know about any professor cat, but the message was true. I advice you to go wear something comfortable and grab anything important."
"Why?"
He seemed to be extremely confused as someone would expect from the situation.
"Everything will be explained in the refuges, for now, follow the instructions and go there."
He observed me with some reluctance for a few seconds but ended nodding.
"Ok thank you."
He turned around back into the house to gather some stuff before going. Not to many time have passed when I saw a couple a little older than me walking without any supplies again. I went there to catch up with them, and the situation ended with them going back to their house to get some stuff. My charisma helped a lot in this situation, people felt that they could trust me, so most of the conversations I had so far have gone smoothly.
But not everyone was the same, and some found some resistance and needed to be controlled.
Families were assigned together to the nearest approved gathering place, and the details of the situation were explained as they arrived at the refuge.
The situation on the refuges was complicated, most people have seen the high ranked people from time to time, but the faces weren't familiar enough to make an impact or make them feel any safer unless they were known before this happened.
Dr. Harting was a respected scientist, but he wasn't that well known to the average population, to get more impact the duty of explaining the situation to the normal people fell on Johanna. There were a lot of things that were still not completely clear about the situation, but with Dante's helps she went around the refuges giving the bad news and giving her best to answer every question.
People were scared but the idea of escaping into the wilds was less attractive than staying here, none of them would be able to survive out there anyway, and those that can are going to be fighting, no one would try to try his luck with Blake in charge.
I'm not sure how it happened but at some point a weird rumor about this being an evacuation exercise was born, it made sense, the amount of information that the coordinators and regular people had was almost none, and so far no one has heard even roar that indicate that we were going to be attacked soon.
This was at the same time good and bad for us. At least they will not panic for now, and the atmosphere would be calm. The problem is that some people are trying to leave to their which generated a few conflicts. Also, when they discover that it's true, it will be quite shocking for them, and the situation might be even more chaotic.
Just like everyone else, I did my best to stop the rumors. I managed to convince some people but in the end, it was useless, and it kept spreading until almost everyone had heard it and believed it to a certain extent.
It's not just that people are stupid, it's that they are scared by the fact that the invasion might be real, so when they see a slight sign of hope, they grab it and refuse to let go.
