'And this is one of my favorite spots to nap~.'
I was showing Cai-Cai the city. It was difficult because when people noticed her, they got scared, screamed and run away. She had to get tinier and now was about my size. Apparently, she didn't do it before she wanted to open a path for me on the forest and she could move faster on her bigger form.
She was nervous and guilty because of what happened to Spencer, and for her to relax a little I was showing her a place to stay under the sun in the morning, snakes like to take naps too right?
We both lay down under the sun for a while. I knew that she was still bothered about Spencer's condition.
'Is Spencer going to be ok?"
'Yeah luckily Rose noticed that it was something wrong with him right away~, I don't kynow why I didn't notice it~?'
Because of our contract if something happens to Spencer, I would die too, but if something is attacking his soul I should have felt something too right? At least that was what I thought before, but it wasn't like that, we both almost die, and I wasn't even aware of it.
While under the sun I surveyed Spencer condition from time to time to be sure that he was ok
He was a lot better than when we arrived mainly thanks to Rose and Lucy's care, who have been awake all night healing his soul.
I was about to start my nap when a weird bell sounded on my head followed by a robotic version of Spencer's voice.

'System~?'
…
Nothing answered back, but I was sure that it was the system… this means that something is going to fail right?
In the morning a group that was going to investigate the disappearances left. Should I follow them and try to help them?
Let's see how it goes, maybe I can complete this quickly. I don't have fighting power on my own so joining the party that is trying to complete the mission should be good enough.
'Cai-Cai wanna go out to play?'
'But the sun feels so nice here!!'
I know that is why this is my favorite spot to nap in the morning…
'Ok, you can stay~, be careful that no one sees you~.'
I jump off the roof and jog leisurely in the direction to where the group went…
It just took a second for me to hear from behind…
'Wait, don't leave me alone!!'
I jogged until she caught up and started to move faster with Cai-Cai following right behind me.
Some people noticed and got scared when they saw a cat chased by a snake, but I just ignored them, and since Cai-Cai can't read minds she will never know (she is a little sensitive to people that got scared by her).
She is on what I decide to call little Cai-Cai mode she was slower than her usual speed, so she was entirely focused on keeping my pace.
When we left the city she grow back again to her standard size… or is it her bigger size? I have no idea which one is her real size, so let's call it Normal Cai-Cai for now.
It took a lot more time than I thought it would. Scott was on that group and using his power to cover them, so I wasn't able to detect them. All I could do was move around trying to get a clue about their location.
It took a long time in silence until Cai-Cai noticed something was off.
'We didn't come to play right?'
'm~?'
'You asked me if I wanna go out to play.'
'Yeah~… and you said no that the sun was good, so I decided to do something else~…'
Cai-Cai looked at me with a mixed feeling, after discovering that she was deceived into accompanying me.
'What are we doing here then?'
'We are looking for a few people~.'
'Who?'
'A scouting group that is doing a mission for Spencer~ I just want to be sure that they don't screw up~.'
'How do they smell maybe I can catch they odor.'
'Just try to detect recent humans that pass by towards the south~.'
'Which one is the South?'
…
'That way~.' I pointed with my tail.
She started to lick the air while we moved around. It took another while for us to find something, but at least Cai-Cai now was busy doing something instead of just looking around.
'I smell something! This way.'
While we were moving Cai-Cai managed to catch a trace, and a little later I found the group that I was looking for, but when I managed to finally catch up with them, it was too late for me to do anything.
The situation wasn't right, I could catch some glimpses of someone spying on them, but I couldn't manage to find the source, it reminded me of the spy that was looking when they tried to kidnap Hope.
The ambush was ready, about 5 people were hidden in different spots. All their minds were empty… completely empty… devoid of any thought or feelings. I couldn't get any information from their minds.
I was too late already so all I could do was to warn them and move as fast as I can to try to somehow rescue someone, but even meowing on those mindless guys was meaningless. It was like their minds were already broken.
The warning confused the scouting team a little, but it made them took out their weapons and get ready to fight. Just when the first guy was about to appear on their sight.
One guy appeared on the middle of the formation and stunned a girl called Ines with a heavy blow in the head. When he was going to jump out he was stopped by an attack from … is that Stan?... When did he arrive?
Well… Stan hit the guy…
The guy was severely hurt but manage to blink out before the someone else could attack him. A shot from far away hit Scott on the shoulder. And Frederick engaged on a fight with the guy that appeared.
Ines was bleeding and motionless on the floor. Johanna took her and started to drag her towards the building to take cover from the sniper.
Stan and Frederick did their best to fend off the guys that were attacking while Scott was recovering from the first shot and going inside after Johanna. Another shot was fired, and this time Scott mind disappeared before he managed to get inside.
Johanna screamed when she saw Scott fall with the hole in his head, but the others didn't have the time for that. Frederick was using his speed to the fullest and had managed to seriously wound one of the guys he was fighting, but despite the multiple severe wounds, the guy keeps up as if nothing happened, while another guy tried to flank Frederick.
On the other side, Stan was having a lot of troubles and was accumulating little wounds all over his body from the fight with a fast guy with a spear.
The guy that attacked Ines at the beginning of the fight once again blinked without fear and appeared at Stan's side. This time he managed to cut Stan's arm, the distraction gave a chance to the guy that was fighting with him to stab on Stan's stomach.
Stan fell down on the street, and Frederick was pushed inside the building, and the rest of the fight continued indoors. Johanna had a pistol and managed to hit the guy that was fighting with Stan.
The battle was over the moment the sniper managed to shot through a window and hit Johanna's leg. From then It was a 1v5, and nothing could be done.
Frederick was left with grievous wounds but didn't die. They all were knocked up if they were conscious after the fight.
When I arrive all that was left was a lot of blood around… I couldn't see any of them even Scott's body was taken away.
This was a disaster for the mission, and I knew it.
There were rats everywhere licking blood, and biting Stan's fingers…
Stan??
I got near him, and the rats run away.
He was still alive, but he was severely injured. I don't know if he will survive.
'What should we do!!!'
At my side, Cai-Cai who was fond of humans had also noticed that stan was still alive. My mind was going at full speed while thinking about our next step. It was getting dark too, so his chance of surviving was getting worse each second.
'I wanted to know who was scaring my people, but I never thought that snake goddess was going to honor us with her presence.'
Did someone just use telepathy On Cai-Cai?
I turned around, and I could feel my instincts growing and about to rule over my mind…
I hate rats…
