I didn't stop to talk, or think. I just ran, dragging Xaseah behind me as we went deeper into the gloom of the mine. My intention was to find someone else, a witness of any sort. I didn't have much hope that a witness could deter Uzi, but this was the only choice I had.
There was no way Xaseah and I would have been able to face Uzi in a fight of any kind. He was a werewolf, a race of half man half wolves with superior strength and speed. In a nutshell, they were a race that directly opposed and challenged vampires. They were just as strong as us, they were faster, and their bite was lethal to vampires. Not to mention Xaseah and I were completely spent from our mining activities.
It would be nothing more than child's play for Uzi to tear us both to pieces. And without question, he was literally armed to the teeth, with silver. Which was terribly funny because werewolves were also allergic to the precious metal. It was part of the curse of the first moon after it as created by the goddess of magic. Or so the story goes.
"HOOOOOWWWWWLLLLLL"
Hearing the howl that rent the air left me gasping for breath and my heart beating in fright. I was shaken, and I was scared. But my legs thankfully did not stop moving. Xaseah was running beside me now, and I knew she could go faster but she was instead trying to keep pace with me. Even though she was also sealed, a vampire of a higher rank is bound to be stronger and faster than a newly turned vampire like me. I was touched, which made me want to tell her to move faster and escape, but…..
"Don't you even dare say anything. We will find a way out of this predicament."
Damn this freaking [Údāmá], I really can't hide anything from her. Our feet made thumping sounds over the gravel covered ground. But even with the thumps and the crunches our legs made as they impacted the ground, it did not stop us from hearing the sound of Uzi's ferocious approach. We were rapidly running out of distance as he drew closer.
Looking ahead we could not find anyone in sight, it was shocking to me, but a quick explanation came to mind. If I had ran in the other direction, maybe I would have been able to see someone. But just like my tower, I have been placed right at the edge of the mine with no body else mining in the direction I was running to.
I could not help the thought, that somehow I had played right into Uzi's hand. There was not going to be a witness, or anyone to save me from the assured promise of death that was rapidly coming to fruition. But I was not going to stop running, it was all I can do at the moment.
Suddenly I felt a huge impact on my back, I felt my ribs crack and my soul energy fluctuate at the sudden shockwave my spine received. I was flung forward almost ten feet, and then I crashed to the ground, rolling for another six, scraping and tearing my skin on the sharp rocks that covered the ground. My head was pounding, and I could feel the warm liquid that was bound to be my blood dripping from a cut on my head. I felt woozy, that hit had more force behind it than I expected, I felt like I was hit by a truck.
I felt another impact beside me as Xaseah crashed to the ground. But she was up almost immediately, this time she chose not to run as she got into a fighting stance.
"Well isn't this cute. Looking at you has stoked bestial desires in me, and I would really like to explore the depths of those desire with you. But I will have to do that after I have cut off both legs of your companion. After all in a date, it's always a good idea to have dinner, and a show." Uzi was trying to bait me. I hated to admit it but it was working.
I couldn't imagine this bastard laying his hands on Xaseah....to be honest I couldn't imagine any bastard doing that. It made me want to shove my hands in his throat. The bastard was not going to lay his hands on Xaseah, over my dead body.
I got back up, and just like Xaseah I raised my fist up in defiance. If I can not get away, then I'm going to fight. My life has not really been in my control since I woke up a vampire. So if I can't control the direction my life was taking, then I will definitely control the circumstances of my own death. And whether Uzi like it or not, I was going to go down swinging.
Uzi was standing at almost eight feet tall. He was a bulking giant of muscle, fur and fangs. He was bred for power and speed, every muscle in his body bunched together for optimum effectiveness and explosiveness. This was a thorough bred killing machine. And honest to God....I regret pissing him off.
Uzi shot forward with such speed that all I saw was a blur before his huge hands came crashing down on my shoulders, sending me down to the unforgiven ground once again. It hurt, and I was pretty sure the bones of my left shoulder was dislocated from my arm, but hitting me was enough distraction for Xaseah to throw a hard right to his muzzled wolf head. She quickly followed it up with an uppercut that left him reeling a bit. She wasn't causing any lasting damage because the seal severely limits her strength as a vampire, it she was still a Nosferatu, her hits were bound to hurt. And enough of them can be lethal.
Uzi quickly recover from the punches and swiped his claws down, tearing Xaseah's skin from the left side of her collarbone to end of her waist. Blood bloomed as she let out a muffled scream, but still managed to surprise me as she punched Uzi straight in the nose compelling a started yelp from him as he moved back a step and whined in pain.
I knew we couldn't win a straight fight with Uzi, and I doubted he would stay still long enough for me to draw my rune on him. So the only other option was to fight as dirty as possible. I picked a handful of dirt and rocks in my hand, and threw it at his face. He noticed and raised his hands to block, giving Xaseah the opportunity to deliver a hard kick to his stomach. He grunted a bit and doubled over in discomfort giving Xaseah another target to his jaw. Then she swung her fist upwards again slamming it underneath his jaw with a resounding thwack.
I knew that I had to press the advantage, so I swung my right leg with every ounce of strength I could muster and sent it to the middle of his legs. He roared in anguish as he got down on his knees clutching his groin. To be honest I felt a little twitch down below as well, prompting me to hypocritically feel sorry for a fellow male. Like I said we had to press the advantage, and Xaseah did just that as she grabbed his head, and brought it down to her rising knee four times, successfully turning his nose into a bloodied mess, though the price she had to pay was three of his silver fangs lodged in her leg.
She moved back quickly enough to dodge his retaliatory swipe, and then I threw sand in his face.....again. And this time he couldn't cover his face, and his eyes received the full brunt of the assault. He roared in irritation as he staggered back to his feet and swiped around temporarily blind.
Xaseah and I moved to press our advantage, but even if a werewolf is blinded, their sense of smell and hearing are what they're most proficient in. He swiped his claws again, this time raising a shower of blood as those claws dug into the side of Xaseah's abdomen. She cried out in pain and stumbled back a bit. My earlier momentum could not be stopped, even though I was worried for Xaseah. My leg once again found it's way to the spot between his legs. He howled so loudly that my bones shook, and my mind immediately became blank.
Then he punched me straight in the chest, picking me off my feet and throwing me away for about ten meters as if I weighed nothing. My vision went dark for a moment, and I had absolutely no idea where I was. I felt an intense pain from my chest and it became incredibly difficult for me to breathe. It too me great pain and effort to finally open my eye to grey and black rocks around me. But it also opened up to the gleaming silver fangs above me with two missing in the middle. There was no time to react or retaliate, those fearsome jaws closed shut,...….. Around me throat.
