THE PIT
BLUE DISTRICT
SECTOR 3 AREA 9 TOWER 17
GUS TERSOLON
I watched Kodak try to catch his breath, from the angle where I was standing I could see blood flow out of his ears and a little bit drip out of his nose. I was upset, he had gone up against a foe that he was weaker than by a lot, and used a theoretical move that even I have not been stupid enough to try out, all just to save a lousy kid who acts like the world is his play ground, and hardly cares about doing things in a calm and mature way.
I mean seriously? The kid placed two headless bodies together, and placed a head on them like some sort of ice cream topping. Who doe's things like that?
But I was not so sure what it was that upset me, was it the fact that my brother saved someone who irritated me, or the fact that he almost lost his life in the process.
Was I jealous that I was unable to save Teluna, or was it because I was ashamed. The werewolf had come out of nowhere, completely evading both of our perceptions until it was too late and practically on top of Teluna.
I was very much prepared to let him die, because in my mind it was already too late, and any other attempt to save the boy would have just been a waste of time. I was going to let him die, and my brother knew it. That was why he saved Teluna, and I knew it was not just about saving the boy, but also about saving me.
It was the most rational decision to be made at the time, but it was still going to be a decision that would've haunted me for the rest of my immortal life. Kodak made a choice to protect me again, and this time from myself.
"We have no time to waste, I'm sure whoever is left would have heard the noise from the werewolf's attack. Kodak if you can't keep up, just stay behind and watch our backs?"
I said to my brother, hoping to not put him through any more danger. The fact that with all of my strength, my brother still had to save me from something did not sit well with me. I wanted to be the one who protected him, and it upset me that I couldn't even do so.
I could argue with myself, that as far as I was concerned, there would have been no other way to save Teluna, but that would have been a lie. I was stronger than my brother, and that was the truth, when it comes to abilities I could tear through a lot of obstacles that would leave my brother stumped.
Our different classes and perception of the BloodChild rank, made our talents for combat very different. But he saved Teluna, and my excuse would not be valid because of one very strong reason........I did not make an attempt to save him.
"Don't worry Gus, I'll be fine in a few minutes. Let's get going." Kodak tried to argue against staying back. Only for Teluna to speak up.
"No! We both know you'll be healed fully, but the energy you've expended to manipulate blood to such a degree is too much. And that's not something you'll be recovering in a few minutes. Just stay back and cover us, that's the rational thing to do, and the best plan in this scenario. If we're caught without an exit strategy, or flanked by enemies, then we're screwed. So please stay back, or I'll break your neck just enough that you'll spend the next few minutes in agonizing silence as it heals. At least that way you get to stay back." Teluna threatened with a smile on his face.
"Seriously why so dark? I'll stay back. But please look after each other, and make sure you've got each other's backs. Now hurry up." Kodak said, after he agreed to stay behind.
I gave him a short bow, and turned. The tower was designed like some sort of manor or castle, as two massive stairs from the left and right, led to a balcony, and a door on it. That door would probably lead us to the second floor, and to the princess. I turned to Teluna who gave me a nod, as he shouldered the gun he had dropped earlier.
I took a leap, scaling the twenty foot distance from the ground to the balcony in a second, I met Teluna there smiling smugly as a portal dematerialized behind him. 'show off' we settled on both sides of the door, and prepared to take action.
We pushed the door open slowly, and took a peak into it. There was a long hallway, and in that hallway we could see about eight humans, and each of them had guns pointed at our faces. We pulled back quickly, and just in time as a hail of gun fire flew out of the hallway.
Hot bolts of plasma energy flew out, slamming into the walls and even the balcony, splintering the wood it was made from and sending fragments down to a surprised Kodak. He took cover as dust fell from the parts of the tower hit by the plasma.
Energy weapons were not as fast as real bullets, since for it to function, accumulation, discharge and recharging was a process they all had to go through. However bullets were still used, but only by a few well trained marksmen.
Energy guns were more mainstream because of how cost effective they were, and they could still kill a man just as easily as a bullet. Not everyone could move at the speed of sound, not even elder vampires, at least not yet anyway.
We were tied down by the rain of plasma bolts and couldn't make any drastic decisions, but Teluna signaled me, with his eyes. Seems he has a plan.
The gun fire came to a stop for only a split second, and Teluna shot forwards and grabbed me, and just in time as the human guards started firing again after he passed the doorway. He placed his hands on my shoulder, and I was caught of guard by a falling sensation, accompanied by a wave of extreme cold.
The feeling lasted only for a moment before we showed up right behind the guards. Both Teluna and I raised the guns in our hands and open fired, only to hear whirring sounds, as if the guns had run out of power.
My eyes widened at the carefully placed trap, this guns were not functional, but had been given to the werewolves as a deterrent to whoever tried to mount a rescue operation. However if we did manage to take out the werewolves, which we did beautifully I might add, we would be deceived into thinking we had good weapons.
We would have come in expecting a gun fight, only to be killed as the weapons we looted failed us. To bad they did not consider the fact that we would show up behind them rather than go for a direct confrontation.
Teluna's lance of darkness showed up, and proceeded to skewer three people, splattering their blood allover the hallway was in a horror inducing scene. But this was just the beginning as I controlled the blood spilt, and slammed it into two other vampires, making sure their bones were crushed under the pressure.
The remaining three humans turned to fire at us, only for Teluna to jump back into the shadow realm, and come up behind one of them, with his mouth already on his throat.
His sudden appearance startled the last two enough for me to shoot forward and stab my hands towards the throat of one of them. The last guard wanted to engage in close quarters combat, but I was smaller and faster than him.
He sent the butt of his gun towards my head, but a simple side step and kick to his knee that completely shattered it, brought him to the ground. Then I brought my mouth to his neck and the world burst into a shower of colors.
I think I understood why the vampires of old, hunted the humans until the whole of Shearath turned against them. The taste of his blood was like a million fire works going off at the same time on my tongue, it was intoxicating and it pulled at me In such a way I've never experienced before.
But what truly blew my mind was the surge of strength that coursed through my body, it was then I truly understood why it was so irresistible. It was like a drug, but above all, it made the vampires who drank it stronger.
This was the secret to the strength of the ancient vampires who fought the war before they were imprisoned, dying out and giving way to our generation. The constant intake of human blood made them stronger, so strong they were capable of god like feats. And vampires where greedy, so greedy they could give devils and demons a run for their money.
They wanted more, and more and they bath Shearath in blood and death for it, it turned them into monsters, nightmares that would haunt the dream of children at night. I pulled back suddenly and saw Teluna do the same as he chucked the now dead human away from him, his eyes widened in fright. Then he looked up at me and said.
"As enjoyable as that was, I never want to touch human blood again!"
"Me either. It's a curse worse than any other. You wouldn't stop wanting more until you're a shadow of yourself and a complete monster." I answered.
Teluna shuddered at the word monster. But I had no idea if we would be able to overcome this, we've had a taste of human blood, it was hard to say that we wouldn't acquire a lust for it.
We would destroy ourselves if that turns out to be the case. Teluna and I moved on to the end of the hallway where an open door was placed. Seemed the guards forgot to close the door in their haste to kill us.
We stepped into the room, and the first thing we say were two girls, about seventeen or eighteen years old, their upper body was bare and criss crossed with numerous scars. They were still alive, but unconscious, it was obvious they had been tortured.
And a little ways off, tied on a bed was a girl about twelve or thirteen years old. I scrunched my eyebrow in confusion as we were told we're coming for a 10 year old girl, but she looked older. When her eyes fell on us, she shouted at us.
"Get out of here!, please take them and go before he comes back! Go!"
Teluna and I looked at each other completely confuse about who she was afraid of. But at that moment a door at the end of this room opened up, and we heard a deep hiss, and the sound of something being dragged across the floor.
There was no light seen beyond the open door, as the room beyond was completely dark. The sound got closer and closer, until finally, a two and half meter tall scaled man literally slithered into the room.
There was hood made from scaled skin, which actually extended from his neck. His yellow serpentine eyes glinted in the dim light as seven inch long fangs, dripping with yellow saliva hung from his wide open mouth.
"Hissssssssss, Welcomessssssss Vampiresssssssssss. Letsssssssss playssssssss"
It was a fucking Naga!
