Chapter 78 - Regret

The battle continued, all the planning I have made is useless… this is not a strategy battle… this is impossible to end.

I looked at the unknown area around me, and the fortress can no longer be seen, only bodies upon bodies of monsters — all of the sizes, races, and dangers they possess with them. The day became night, and the night became day and time became a useless thing.

I had many scars on my body but thanks to my regeneration I survived. I don't know what happened to my comrades within the mine, but I believe in them surviving.

Slash! Boom! I slashed a monster with my broken sword and blasted off another with my fist, is there no end to this damn fight!

My body was fine, but my mind was exhausted from not resting even a moment, I know that I will fall if I can't stay awake for long. What kind of fucking trial is this!

Roar! A massive dragon emerged from the sky, followed by smaller drakes began to glide fast towards me. I looked at it with my dead eyes and gripped the handle of my broken sword hard. "Come, I will fight you too!" I shouted as I pulled the sword back and slashed as hard as I can when the dragon was within my reach.

Ting! The sword got cracked again before it got destroyed, only the hilt remains, I was blown away, I began to roll down the hill, and the monsters around the hill started to attack me harder.

"Fucking hell…" I said as I gripped the ground trying to stabilize myself, but the monsters didn't allow it as they ripped one of my arms off.

"Argh" I shouted in rage as I pushed my feet on the ground to fly off the monsters distance, as I was flying down, I looked at the sky to spot all of the drakes, birds and the dragon rushing towards me.

My body got torn apart in the air, and I couldn't stop them…

After I experienced death again, my body appeared within a white room as a glass ball was floating in the middle of it. Looking around, my eyes focused on the glass ball and walked towards it.

[The second trail has been completed!]

[Time of survival one year two months and 14 days]

[Monster level T1 stage 5]

[Soldiers remaining: 0]

'Damn it' I shook my head as sadness filled my eyes. T1 should be transcendence based on what Anima has said before.

"Congratulations on passing the three trials" Mother Olwen appeared from behind the glass ball and walked next to me before patting my shoulder.

I shook my head "I should have failed, I deserve no sympathy as I didn't save anyone in the end."

"Do not be upset, if you had more time you would have done even better but don't forget that you gave them hope…" Mother Olwen said as she smiled.

'Sigh' I felt depressed and tired, "Hope…" my voice was cracking slowly as I began to cry on the ground and shout "Hope this, hope that! Who cares about hope if they can't even keep their lives!"

It felt like shit when you go through a year of hoping for your brothers and sisters to live! I couldn't stop fighting wishing to protect my comrades! What about my family back on earth! What will I do if a similar situation occurs again!

I gripped my head hard as tears stemmed out of my eyes, Mother Olwen looked at me and spoke "Get stronger, make them stronger too" she spoke as if she knew what I was thinking about.

"I will let you vent your feelings for a while, and I will come back when you're done," Mother Olwen said in a calm voice as she disappeared from the white room.

------------

The old man had a solemn look on his face, and he looked at the monitor that displayed one man kneeling on the ground, crying from what he went through, crying for his future, crying for his family and world.

"Turn it off" Mother Olwen entered the room and sighed as a golden chair appeared behind her and a few small tables on her side.

Observer B went over and took an opposite seat side of Olwen by creating a chair out of wood, Observer A walked next to Observer B and took out a hammer out of nowhere and hit the air a few times before sitting on the air itself.

William disappeared from his spot before appearing next to Mother Olwen sitting on a stone chair filled with carvings of different animals.

All of them Sighed and began to discuss the last trial, and Mother Olwen began speaking "He has gone through a lot, passing all of the tests given, a gifted child with a bright future but he holds great responsibility like his future selves."

William continued "He showed great courage in the 16 battles, he chose to sacrifice himself at any cost to save his people, but he also forgot that the food supplies could only last for a few months…"

Observer B spoke in a mild tone "He understood the main concept of gathering yet even with all of the planning, he knew that no planning could overcome total strength of numbers."

"Even with crafting the toughest walls, strongest weapons or armor, eventually everything returns to its roots and disappears…" Observer A said with a smile before gripping air around him and creating a small crack within the air itself, making it visible to the naked eye.

The glass ball began to transform slowly into a large screen behind Mother Olwen, and slowly a considerable amount of text appeared on it.

"Seems like a new era will come," Mother Olwen said as a giant clock appeared behind her, William looked shocked at what he saw because this meant something significant.

"Hahahaha! Finally, someone was capable of overcoming his future!" Observer B said as the land behind him changed, and the forests began to materialize behind him with thousands of animals appearing under his legs and running towards the woods.

"New era, hehe," Observer A said as his body began to change into machinery before merging into the background.
