Chapter 9 - Idan

[First - Person]

(A Soul Pact. I guess that could be a good starting point for allies. I can benefit and the squirrel would be able to strengthen itself under the influence of my energy.)

I was quite happy with how this concluded. A soul pact would prevent both of us from hurting the other party and we would both have something to win. We would have to help each other but at least I wouldn't be expected to put my life on the line.

Now that I cleared this up I prepared myself for the Soul Pact. Since I possess more energy I would be the conductor for the pact. We both have to split a part of our soul, which is quite painful and fuse it. Which I would do. Afterward, we would both take exactly one half of the soulmass and integrate it into our soul. Its painful but the benefit is that our soul would be enlargened by a small bit.

Preparing for the fusion I sat down crosslegged and lifted the squirrel into my lap. It seemed perplexed for a second but instantly curled itself up and lays down on my thighs.

"Seems like your really comfortable."

"Yes, your legs make for a very nice resting place." answered the squirrel through squinched eyes.

"Then relax I'll be taking a part of your soul now." Saying so I stretch my index finger toward the back of the squirrel, slowly a silvery mass of what seems to be a floating liquid stretches from where its spine should be located.

I slowly place my finger on the mass and coat my finger with energy. Once my energy escapes my fingertip I notice that the difficulty of controlling it raised by at least 10 times. Being surprised by this I almost lose control of it. At the last moment, I regain my control and slowly rotate the energy around my finger, producing friction between my own energy and the energy present in the air. Once I increase the speed a blue hue appears around my finger and after it became dark blue I press my finger onto the squirrel's soul.

(It seems to hurt more than I expected)

The squirrel pressed its claws into my thighs drawing blood. On the one site, it showcased its firm will and at the same time made me once again aware of my current weakness.

(I have to temper my body as fast as possible)

Concentrating back on the difficult procedure I finally cut through the last strand connecting the two soul parts. Instantly the cut-off soul diffused in all directions, about to turn into pure energy.

"Stay here!" saying so my hand grabbed the soul and trapped it into a bubble of energy.

Leaving the soul to float in front of me I extended my own through my left hand and steel my resolve.

With a swift slash of my right hand, a piece of my soul now floats in the air.

Gritting my teeth through the burning pain that extends from my hand to my brain I stretch my right hand towards my soulmass and guide it towards the other soul-piece.

Upon meeting both clash and threaten to destroy each other but under my pressure, exerted through my energy, they both compress and slowly turn into a round ball roughly 5 centimeters in size.

After half an hour the ball, made of two soul-pieces is finally complete. Green and looking poisonous it is certainly not a pleasant sight.

(I expected something...more beautiful)

Despite these thoughts, I split the ball into two halves and promptly swallowed mine. The squirrel lifted its head of my thighs.

"I need my name."

This took me by surprise. I forgot to think of a name. While not exactly necessary a name for your partner served to strengthen the pact. I assumed that since I did not want a name, it would not want one as well. I swiftly accessed my system and ordered it to search my memories for names. I instantly received a choice:

1. Male

2. Female

3. Androgynous

(Right. I don't even know its gender.)

"What gender are you?" asking so I expected a fast reply.

"What is a gender?" the squirrel curiously turned its head and looked into my eyes.

"Are you male or female?" (AN: Do you fck or do you get fcked? Sry couldn't resist)

"I'm a male."

Having cleared this I had the System search for male names.

Bob, Dylan, Lars, Jonathan, Jack, Brandon, Hugh, Benjamin, Noah, Jonas, William, Liam...

The list was endless and had thousands over thousands of names. Skipping most of them I searched for a name that would fit a squirrel.

(Wait. Why am I making this so hard for myself? System! Randomly select a name from the list.)

A lottery slot machine appeared in my vision and started.

(At least it got animations.)

The machine slowed down and a name appeared.

I extended my finger towards the split half of the soul-ball and engraved the chosen name on it.

Upon swallowing the squirrel seemed to find it appropriate to greet me

"It is nice to meet you. Now as an ally and at least for me a friend."

I decided to reply in kind

"It is certainly nice to meet you, Idan."
