Chapter 79 - Alex Wallace

Alex was terrified when the plane's wing suddenly exploded. He saw someone instantly get sucked out of the large hole in ther side of the plane the explosion caused as the wing broke away from the fuselage. He was not too far away himself and her could feel his seat begin to be sucked out the same hole. As the bolts holding his seat down finally gave way ther bright sun outside the plane blinded him temporarily. It was during that moment when his life flashed before his eyes.

He was a young kid again. The youngest of three his older siblings constantly picked on him. His father was a very stern man. He believed that a man should always be able to handle his own problems, even if he was only 4 years old. Alex grew up taking quite a beating over the years. If nothing else he learned to take a punch. As he grew older he learned to give as much as he took. He developed a love for the Asian culture from his father, who loved to watch martial arts movies. As Alex got older his strength became one of his proudest features. He grew up with a sense of justice helping out those who were bullied because they were weaker. It reminded him of his own life.

As he reached adulthood he settled into a normal life. He worked doing manual labor, mostly construction work, and he became a good father for his kids. As time wore on little things started to creep up on him. At first it was back pains, then neck pains. He soon needed to get regular shots in his knees to help with the pain. Many times his doctor would advise him to think of changing careers because his body just couldn't handle the stress anymore. Alex thought about changing careers but at his age what could he find for work that could guarantee the same income as he was making presently. Plus he loved what did. He loved building things.

Alex was excited when he was chosen to attend an overseas conference for new innovative products and tools for the construction trade. While he was there here was line a kid in a candy store drooling over all the new tools on display. He had a blast there and couldn't wait to show his wife all the free swag her got while he was there.

When Alex got his vision back again he could see a couple of people like himself falling into a giant hole in the ground. Some people were screaming but some people were so utterly terrified that their faces were distorted in a horrific scream but no sound escaped their lips. They fell for days, they fell for so long that everyone became numb to the sensation. Some people couldn't handle the strain on their hearts and already died. Their lifeless bodies just falling with their lifeless eyes staring off into space.

They had been falling for so long that it took someone yelling out that they could see light for those left living to realize the change. To everyone's surprise they found themselves in the air once again. Before they could even adjust to the new changes a massive explosion happened near by sending then flying off in a new direction. Alex tried to see past the wind that was stinging his eyes he could see the tops of an enormous forest and a humungous lake ahead of him. The survivors ripped thru the very tops of the trees barely slowing them down. Fortunately for them a lot of the debris hit the water before they did agitating the water enough to slow them down enough to skip across the top before stopping on the other side of the lake. Their momentum carried them over ten kilometers across that lake before coming to a stop. Their bodies were bruised and battered. Everyone passed out from the whole ordeal. Mostly it was the release of the pent up stress of constantly awaiting their death for so long.

Alex didn't know how long he slept for. When he awoke he was still strapped to the meager parts of what was left of his seat on the plane. his legs and feet were still in the water. He looked around and saw a couple people standing up looking at their surroundings. Alex unbuckled his seat belt, and chucked to himself feeling utterly ridiculous at having to do so considering the circumstances. He saw a woman near him who hadn't woken up yet. His body was stiff and sore but he still managed to hobble over to check on her. She had blood trailing down the side of her head, but she was breathing steadily and didn't seem to have any other obvious injuries that he could she. Her lips did seem very parched. As Alex thought about it here realised he was very thirsty as well. He returned to the lake and cupped a very small handful of water to test if it tasted drinkable. After a very small sip he discovered that it was the best tasting water he ever had in his entire life. His mind seemed to clear up a little and he felt less stiff and achy. He helped the sleeping lady out of the remains of her chair and carried her closer to the lake. He slowly poured a little water into her mouth. She coughed at first as she didn't drink the water properly, but soon her body's instincts took over and she swallowed the water greedily. After taking the second little handful of water she began to wake. When she opened her eyes she was very confused to find herself in a strange man's arms. Instead of being frightened she found herself surprised at how safe she felt at the moment. Right before they had a chance to speak a large group of people came storming out of the forest near them pointing weapons and yelling at them in a language none of then recognized.
