Yet, the reality was far from the noble intentions underpinning that strategy; inexperienced men and women filled the ranks, many of whom had never faced a real threat before. The clattering of arrows, the flickering of spells, and the chaotic barrage of rocks hurled from the walls offered a semblance of resistance, but it was more a desperate act than a calculated defence.
As the first wave of Demon Rats approached, the tension thickened in the air.
