Although the dogfights in the skies were intense and it was something that the Dashavataras had seen before, the true carnage was actually on the ground. The Rifle Mages purposely brought the air battles above a certain upper ceiling in the skies so that they do not have any misfires against the people on the ground. By introducing a hard deck which was meant to simulate ground impact in their perceived fight, they did not go beyond a certain altitude to ensure there was no mixup.
Of course, this was something that the armies of Dashavatara did not care about. It was not something that they needed to differentiate but what they did not know was that because they were not respecting this so called hard deck that the Rifle Mages had implemented in their fight, they were subjected to firing from both the ground and from the top.
