Chereads / Devil's Knight: The Last Hero / Chapter 3 - A Party Divided

Chapter 3 - A Party Divided

Several days had passed since Hikage's primary order to repair the Citadel, it looked a lot better than it did. Daemons of all varieties were working together on one purpose. Hikage wondered whether this was the real goal of the Demon King.

"I'm going to step out for a while, Brynhildr. Watch the Hall while I'm gone." He asked.

"Of course, Domine mi." She replied as she sat on the throne. She noticed something off in the air.

'Oh?' she thought, 'This should be some fun indeed.'

A figure darted from the rafters of the building and was about to pass her when she grabbed it by the arm and swung it to the ground.

On the floor now was a black haired man wearing the garments of an assassin.

"So," Brynhildr said, "What business might you have with me, transgressor?"

He got up off the ground. His face was bleeding from the impact.

"Silence, Demon King. I will end you here, that first attack…was merely a test." He responded, sounding quite injured.

'So he thinks that I'm Lord Hikage?' She thought to herself, 'This'll be fun.'

"Come at me then, end the age of Terror with your own hands! Venite exultant lusibus." She enticed him to charge, her eyes lusting for blood.

Meanwhile, Iris and her group were outside the gates of the Hall, with Daemon corpses all around them. They looked somewhat tired from killing Daemons.

"Now for the big guy." Iris said, "Are you ready, Eric, Nari."

They all prepared to enter the gates when they suddenly burst open and Yari flew out onto the ground with some force. There were wounds all over him and a hole in his shoulder.

"Yari!" Nari panicked. As she rushed to get some potions out of her satchel, Brynhildr walked out of the gates, her gaze unbroken as it lay on Yari.

"Was that it?" She asked mockingly, "I thought you said that you were going to kill me. Inutilia. Well…I guess there's no use keeping you around. Time to die."

She put her hand forward and as if something controlled him, he flew into her grasp.

"Morior."

An unholy flame crept up Brynhildr's arm and into Yari's throat. It exploded and his body combusted like hell-fire. She could hear Nari scream his name as he immolated to nothing, not even ashes remained.

"So," Brynhildr said, "Yari was your name? Requiescant in Inferos."

She turned to the remaining three.

"You care that he died. Yet you care not for the hundreds of Daemons that you slew...each one was treated by my Lord as if they were his own, he felt each of his kin die by your hands. Crudelis." She spoke to them in a way that made Iris feel a slight guilt.

'She…wasn't the Demon King?' She thought, "Then what in the hell is she?"

Hikage stepped out from the shadows.

"I believe it is me whom you're looking for. Allow me to introduce myself. I am Hikage Lukaefer, the 'Demon King' that you wish to kill." He told them.

Brynhildr looked at those left.

"You are in the presence of Lord Hikage. Genua." She ordered. As she did, the three were forced to one knee by some unknown force.

He took a look at Eric in interest.

"You. What is your name?" He asked.

"Eric." He responded, almost as if he couldn't resist.

"I would like to fight you head on, I need to see something."

Hikage released his bind and Eric rose, drawing his sword.

"You'll regret setting me free. I'll kill you for what you did to Yari!" He shouted, swinging a powerful strike straight at Hikage's face. Eric stared in shock as his blow was stopped by a single finger.

"You have a lot of strength, you may make a fine leader, Eric." Hikage flicked the blade backward into Eric's face, cutting into it with an insane amount of force. "Of course…I can't keep you alive for that."

Blood splattered all over the ground as Eric dropped to the floor, motionless. Both Iris and Nari looked on in horror as this all transpired.
