Mirly stopped at the school's largest evergreen tree. There were still no people around since the bell just rang. Reen, her back facing Mirly's started talking, Mirly casting her eyes down not daring to even look at her back.
"You-! Why?! Not saying..." Reen turned around and scolded her dear friend. Reen couldn't get the right words out of her mouth with the shocked, betrayal and anger at her friend's sudden news.
"I'm sorry Ree-"
Regret, guilt and pain were evident in her voice. Mirly approached her then held Reen's shoulder. Mirly's hand was on her right shoulder but Reen shrugged it off.
"Please understand... I had no other choice... This was the only way I could-"
She caught herself before she could say anything else, luckily Reen didn't seem to notice.
Mirly felt extremely guilty for hiding it from her best friend which made her keep her mouth shut as words failed to express her regret and guilty heart. Mirly knew that despite Reen who forgot her memory of them growing up together, Reen still treated her the same way as before unconsciously or consciously.
Reen knew Mirly was not at fault, it was her own life whatever she wants to do with it was her decision. If she wanted to tell her about anything or not tell her at all, she has the right to do so. She knew all of these, but still...
"We are best friends. She could at least told me or hinted about it... It was not the typical moving from city to city. It was to another country for goodness sake! I know we can still communicate through the internet and see each other during holidays and beaks but still..." Reen thought to herself making her heart feel conflicted the more she thought about it
Tears started falling from her face, she wiped it hurriedly feeling her anger subsiding and giving way to pain and sadness. Mirly noticing this became guiltier.
"Oh... Reen, please don't cry... I really didn't mean to hide it from you, it just sort of happened that way..."
She placed her hand on her shoulder again and this time Reen didn't shrug it off, Mirly then hugged her. They stayed like that for a few minutes as Reen hugged her back as her cries turns to sniffles.
Reen sniffed loudly, trying to hold back her tears. Mirly patted Reen's back, comforting her. When she finally cried her eyes out [1], Mirly and Reen stared at each other then they both slightly smiled easing the tension filled surrounding a few minutes ago.
After a few more minutes, Reen sat on one of the roots of the tree surrounding them. Silence engulfed them, only the rustling of the leaves, the chattering of animated students, the teachers talking and engines of the nearby cars could be heard.
Mirly got one of her school journals, opened it to a certain page and showed it to Reen beckoning her to read it. Reen stared at her then at her notebook. She curiously took it and started reading it silently.
