Chapter 16 - Mage guild and Grant

Walking straight was what Poe did. The city was not as lively as he expected as there were only a few people walking on the street. Other than that, it looked like a normal human city with houses and shops everywhere. This surprised Poe quite a bit, as from what he knew about humans said that there would be some everywhere, but this was after all a frontier city, so maybe it was only here humans were a little scarcer.

Thinking this, Poe continued walking straight. The city was quite normal out of the giant walls around it; Poe also saw the giant tower in the distance. That was most likely the mage guild.

All the way from the gate to the entrance of the mage guild nothing out of the ordinary happened to him, well expect a few people starring on him from the distance, but that was most likely because he was from the elven race and not anything else, Poe thought.

Standing in front of the mage guild, Poe looked up and could see the giant tower piercing into the sky. The tower itself was at least a few hundred meter high and to make it better the tower was quite wide too.

Not waiting anymore, Poe entered the guild building.

The inside was decorated with flowers and glowing crystals floating midair giving the whole inside a mysteries feeling of having steeped into a new world. A big staircase was circling all the way to the top in the middle of the room with people going up and down the staircase, some not even bothering to use it just flew up with the help of magic.

This was indeed quite a contrast compared to the half-deserted city outside; it was like all the people were inside the mage guild, as it looked bustling with activity.

Poe might have shown an interesting appearance as someone came over and asked him.

"Your first time in the mage guild?"

He might have stood out quite a bit or maybe it was because he froze just after entering the mage guild tower. The one who asked Poe was a human, a quite muscular human comparing to how skinny Poe looked made him stand out even more.

[Human warrior, lvl 27]

Poe was also quite surprised as he thought mages would not be that buff, but to his surprise it was a warrior. What would a warrior be doing in the mage guild?

"Y-yes"

As Poe answered the question, his questioning expression might have shown on his face, as the human proceeded to explain the reason why he was at the mage guild and not the warrior guild.

"The reason that I'm here is to complete a request. The counter for applying to the mage guild is just beside the one where you turn in requests. Ah… That is if you are going to join the mage guild, I just assume that seeing as you are an elf."

Having his question answered, Poe was satisfied, even if he did not ask.

"Okay, by the way what kind of request would a warrior get at the mage guild?"

Poe asked with a curious expression on his face. The human warrior chuckled slightly before answering his question with a slight smile showing up on his face.

"Gathering some plants for the alchemists here. They really need a lot of rare herbs and when the mage guild can't supply them alone the warriors at the warrior guild in the city helps them out. By the way, what is your name? Mine is Grant!"

Having answered the question, Grant proceed to ask Poe his name, to which Poe answered.

"Poe!"

Poe said it all smiles being quite proud of his name, but Grant could not help laughing out loud when he heard his name earning them a few looks from people passing by.

"Haha, Poe? Sounds like the name of a pet, I remember a friend of mine had a cat with that name, Haha."

No idea what was so funny about his name, Poe chose to ignore the laughing Grant. Sadly, for Poe it took the warrior a few minutes before he managed to calm down again.

*chuckle*

"Oh well, follow me I will take you to the counter so you can get registered."

Saying so, Grant led the way towards the counter with Poe following behind him.

Soon both of them came to the counter for registration and requests, the one with had a line while the one with registration was empty.

Grant went with Poe towards the counter for registration; this made them stand out a little as a few glares were sent their way, but nothing more happened as they arrived in front of the counter.

Behind the counter was a tall human girl with blonde hair and blue eyes.

[Human wind mage, lvl 21]

Looking at her, Poe was a little confused as all he saw when looking at people with warrior class was warrior, but when it came to mages, he could see what kind they were, but then again maybe a mage could only see other mages status and warriors could only see other warrior's status. Poe who had chosen the mage advancement was already walking towards the path of a mage and not a warrior.

"So Grant, what brings you here~?"

She said as she looked towards Grant, ignoring Poe's presence splendidly. Poe who saw this got quite sad at the idea of suddenly being ignored by the woman in front of him, so Poe did what Poe did and interrupted the woman that was clearly sending a mischievous look towards Grant. Of course, he did not notice that Grant had grown silent and was looking towards the tall woman shyly.

"I would like to register at the mage guild, Grant brought me here!"

Poe said to the woman who was clearly trying to flirt with Grant without hesitation trying to defend Grant and yes to Poe it looked like the tall woman was trying to bully the kind Grant…

The woman who was interrupted by Poe looked a little annoyed, before looking down towards Poe. The look of annoyance soon turned into a small smile as she looked towards Poe.

"So~ this little brother wants to register at the mage guild? That is fine, but remember to be a full-fledged member you need to have a mage class~, before that you can only be a member of the apprentice rank."

The tall woman said teasingly to Poe.

"That is fine, it will be awhile before I get a class and can I still take up request?"

Poe said to the tall woman, he wanted to hit level 15 after all.

"Okay wait here for a moment; I need to get you a form that you need to fill."

The slightly embarrassed woman then turned around and left towards the back of the counter.

Why did they not have things such as registration forms up at the counter surprised Poe a little, but he did not mind it.

Grant on the other hand knew full well why she left for the back instead of using the registration forms at the counter…
