Chapter 39 - Entering the Swamp

"Give a round of applause for Mystical Flame. He is the 7th person to defeat the Golem. You all are witnessing history being made." The host shouted.

The enthusiasm of the crowd was sky high. It had never reached this high for the previous battles. The betting ratio was 1.1:2. He was the 2 since they expected the golem to have a higher chance at winning.

Emile's coin count doubled.

He now had 2 gold coins and 400 silver coins. Emile thought this was enough to buy all the Mythril he would need.

Now he had to seek a location that would sell the Mythril.

Emile stopped at 20 wins a row. He received a few rewards from the arena.

[You have received 1000 fame]

[You have received Arena Badge II]

He identified the badge.

Arena Badge II

A badge awarded to a player with a win streak of 20.

Rank: Rare

Level Requirement: 0

Strength +10

Players take 20% more damage from all attacks.

Passive in Inventory

The badge strengthened him.

The minimum damage Emile could do a player was 166. He could kill 90% of players in two hits.

He left the arena which disappointed many fans. They would wait for Mystical Flame to once again dominate the fights.

Emile was still in the encampment. He didn't know what the people called this encampment. He asked a nearby passerby.

"What do you call this place?" Emile asked.

"Kantaro Mines." The man replied while holding onto a batch of minerals.

"Where can I buy Mythril?" Emile questioned the man before he could leave.

"Mythril? Um... you can look around the market, sometimes people sell Mythril but, most of the time you won't find it in the market." The man said.

"Thank you for your help," Emile said.

Emile walked around the marketplace for Mythril.

He only found three pieces of Mythril by scouring the entire marketplace. The man was correct when he stated that it was rare. Emile asked a few more people, but they also didn't know a specific location for Mythril.

He even went back to Igneus to ask about a location that sells Mythril. Igneus didn't know much about a location that sold Mythril. He said to look around the market. This didn't give him any valubale information.

Emile bought the three pieces of Mythril he found in the market and moved on. He didn't want to waste time by searching. He would come back each day to scour for Mythril.

Emile used 138 silver coins to buy the three Mythril pieces. They were expensive. Emile placed them into his inventory.

Emile wanted to complete another requirement of the quest. He asked around about the remaining items he needed to look for.

"Hey, do you know where to find alligator scales and/or meteorite dust?" Emile asked someone.

"Alligator scales are from the alligators in the swamp. You can find the swamp to the south-east of the entrance. I've never heard of Meteorite dust so I'm sorry for not knowing." The women said.

"It's okay. Thank you for your help." Emile said.

Emile asked around for meteorite dust.

Not a single person knew where to find meteorite dust.

Emile gave up looking for meteorite dust and walked out of the encampment. He went to the south-east like the women had said. After 30 minutes of walking, he found a place where the ground was damp.

He walked in this place.

His steps left a footprint. He looked around. The trees were dark green and were abundant. Water covered the ground. Though it only rose to his boots. The water went deeper the farther he went into the swamp.

He saw many animals.

There was a toad which was level 15. They hung around the dry parts of the swamp. Flies also flew around. They ate other small insects. These insects didn't do much damage by themselves but when they were together, it would be a whole other story.

Emile avoided these insects. He wanted to test out his strength against the frog.

All of his skills were active.

The frog was a normal monster; its stats were higher than the level 5 chief ranked monsters. Emile didn't have a challenging time when facing the frog.

Killing the frog came his loads of experience. He received around 400 experience points from the frog.

Emile needed 100,000 experience points to level up to level 10. He had around 19,000 experience points.

He was far away from leveling up.

Emile hunted any frogs he saw. His experience went up to 25% before he saw the first alligator.

The alligator was floating through the swamp. It didn't suspect the random fireball coming towards it.

Two more fireballs were following the first fireball. The enraged alligator summoned multiple water balls and aimed it at Emile.

Emile took this as an opportunity to study the water balls. He wanted to learn how to summon multiple spells at the same time.

He watched the alligator cast the spell.

Emile wanted to learn how animals could cast spells without chanting. If he figured this out, he could summon spells instantly instead of a small gathering time period.

He got no clues from the just watching the spell fly towards him. He realized that he had to do more to understand the spell.

In the settings of the game, there was a pain limiter. An average player would keep the limiter low. Sometimes zero.

They consider this to be a dumb idea since most experts learn from pain. They also understand more of the environment from pain.

If an assassin attacked from the back, the player wouldn't notice anything. They might feel someone touch them but since no pain occurred; they won't care too much about it. And before they could continue to do their own thing; they would fall down and vanish showing their death.

Players weren't stupid. They learned these tips from past game experience. They learned to put their pain option at 20%.

Experts put it around 50% to get more of a realistic experience.

Emile's pain stat was also at 50% since he felt odd when he got hit for the first time. He realized that there was less pain inflicted from the damage which caused his brain to think the attack was weaker than it truly was.

This could have caused serious problems if he was in a serious fight. He changed his settings in a moment's notice to better suit him.

Emile checked his pain limiter and increased the pain to 100%. He wanted the most realistic version of the water ball to hit him.

Even though the attack didn't deal much damage, it made Emile wince from the pain. He didn't scream out since he was familiar with pain. Fighting and pain coexisted.

He had to go through lots of pain before he reached his level of strength.

Emile continued to get hit and understood the force behind the water ball. Emile retreated to a safe distance.

He wanted to test out his water sphere on himself. He wanted to compare the two spheres.

Emile threw a water sphere straight up in the air. He watched the sphere go up hundreds of feet before descending straight down. The wind didn't affect the sphere since he made the sphere from an element. Unless something concentrated the wind element to be much purer than the water sphere, then it will disperse the sphere.

The water sphere landed on him and did loads of damage.

He understood that his water sphere wasn't as pure as the alligators. He needed to figure out how to make it purer.
