Chapter 249 - Advancing

The atmosphere outside kept escalating more and more. The longer they waited the more the men felt the pressure on their shoulders, especially their leader. The longer they were cooped up in there meant two things which were both bad for them. One was that the people inside were recovering, even a little strength recovered meant that the fight was going to be harder. And two was that the people inside had more time to think of a plan.

Luckily for him, the people inside decided to become target practice as the walls that were previously sealed suddenly opened up and two figures charged at them. In an instant almost every man loaded their clips into the bodies of the attackers. But by some form of chivalry, they refused to get down until they reached within 5 meters of the first men before slowing down.

By this point however, whatever confidence the leader had in this encounter faded away as what they couldn't see in the shadows, the flames behind them had illuminated. The bodies that had rushed them were not the people they were looking for, heck they weren't even people at all.

Two humanoid shaped piles of clay were coming at them, the only reason they slowed down at all was because their bodies seemed to be melting for some reason. Before anyone could figure out what was going on, the clay men had leapt up and deformed into streams of mud as it advanced on the men, wrapping itself around as many men as it could fit.

Once it was done, it would enclose on itself, taking it's victim and bundling them inside it before it turned into a ball and hardened, leaving neither hide or hair of the shooters. At every angle around the building, the surrounding men were experiencing the same thing, two clay men walking out of the building, wasting their ammunition before horrifying them with their capabilities. Some weren't even able to figure out the ruse before they found themselves suffocating inside a ball of earth, a good twelve seconds before their lungs collapsed and they figure out that they were as good as dead.

The gun fire, for all it did only contributed to the chaos. Seeing all his men fire as well as hearing gunshots from the surroundings did not make it easier for him to sort out which of the men escaping the building were the real ones, not realizing that he was in a wild goose chase. With the gun fire and screaming, it almost made it too easy for the hulking former captain and current captain to walk up behind the leader.

It took a while for him to recognize that the shadow stretching out behind him, dancing from the searing heat of the fire, growing dimmer and bigger as the figure that had cast it was closing in on him. By the time he had gotten a grip on his fear and decided to turn around, only his head did so while the rest of his body remained facing forward. But his eyes only saw empty grounds in the end as his assailant had already walked past him, advancing on the rest of his men.

While they were all looking at the building where Grendolyn, Ode and Travis was supposed to be hiding in, three heads that had popped out from the ground were looking at him and his men. Out of those three heads, a slimmer female one that was set in the center was visibly annoyed from the potentially permanent scowl she had plastered on. She was angry, and justifiably so, seeing as how Ode's hulking figure had somehow squeezed into the already cramped space that she had recently only had to share with Travis.

The heat from the still raging flames, the lack of air and the lack of space that would cause any claustrophobic to go catatonic was not an ideal situation to be in, even for a fully functional sane person. To Grendolyn it felt like she was the filling in between two sandwiches, except that the loaves of bread were hard and moist in a very bad way.

Even worse was that her nose had started to itch because of a single drop of sweat that was slowly and excruciatingly taking it's time traveling all the way from that bridge between her eyes to the tip of her nose right at the spot where the ridges of her nostrils dipped into the black mucus filled holes. But that small droplet was such a d@#k that once it reached that spot it refused to drop, just lingering there as it played around with her sanity.

She looked at either of her partners in crime, her eyes begging the question if they were ready for this stunt they were about to pull. Their affirmations however, did not exactly put her worries to rest as she began to let her mana flow and command her new golems.
