"Oh." That was really all Zhao Wei could reply.
"'Oh'? That's it?" The girl asked. "I tell you I'm dying and all you can respond with is oh?"
"I'm not really sure how to respond to it... It's not like I meet someone everyday who out of the blue would tell me they're dying, I'm not sure there's even a proper way to respond to that kind of thing." Zhao Wei answered, looking up while scratching his chin. The air turned a little awkward after he confessed his thoughts. He was to distracted to see her arm her belt with what looked like a water gun and a few transparent glass bottles.
"So what my genius past self didn't understand was that by making the golem and passing on her will meant that she'd have to give a piece of her emotional spectrum and her mana away.." Grendolyn explained while she moved around the room looking for things. "At some point, she'd split herself into so many pieces that I became what's left in the original body."
"Problem is that I have barely even enough to keep this whole thing from breaking down." She said as she sat back down on her bed. "And the golems, having been alive for longer than intended, have formed their own characters."
"So even if I want to absorb them back, which I don't..."
"You wouldn't be able to assimilate them back into the original's character anymore." Zhao Wei concluded. "But... If you've told me all that, I think you expect me to do something for you... right?"
"Insensitive much..." She looked at Zhao Wei, "Though I like a guy who catches on quick." As she said so, she moved towards the vent again, lifting it open and waited for him to come in.
Zhao Wei stood in the room silently, not sure how to respond or even what to do at this moment. "Sorry, I'm 20 and I don't know what's the age requirement where you come from, but where I come from we call that statutory rape, it's not very nice... so I'll stop you right there." He finally decided to speak, and he said... that.
"Don't flatter yourself, I'm 27, don't really feel like robbing the cradle." Her upturned lips turning wry with that response as she poked her head back in. "It's pretty easy really, I want to get out of here?"
"Can't you do that already?" Zhao Wei asked as he took a step in.
"I can do it through a proxy inside the compound, but I'd like to see what's outside for once, with my own two feet..." She sighed while looking down her own body.
"Problem is that I'd get killed out there before I get to do anything..." Zhao Wei left eye arched upwards, even as he followed along "I know both lead to death, but I'd prefer to go out in my sleep than spending my last moments getting mauled to death by a beast as my dying brain watches it savor my innards."
"That's a pretty graphic imagination." Zhao Wei nodded. "Back to can't you do that already, I mean despite your size you obviously hold a lot of strength in your body, what's the point of dragging me into this."
"First of all thank you... I do revel in my brains cognitive function." She explained. "And on that thought, there's a simple reason for why I need your help."
She walked to the door and the moment before she even held it her whole body began to tremble.
Cold sweats began to run down the nape of her neck in drops so big, Zhao Wei could see it from across the room.
Her whole body began to tremble uncontrollably as she gritted her teeth.
She was doing her best to reach out and open that door but it was almost as if something invisible was holding her whole body back.
With a grunt she forced herself to hold the handle but immediately as she did so, her legs gave out.
Agoraphobia, fear of the outside.
Grendolyn looked at Zhao Wei with a little self pity in her, "Yeah, my past self gave away a lot of her emotional spectrum, but she stuck herself with the crippling fear of exiting this room, some genius she was."
"You can't leave the door of your own room and you want me to take you outside?" Zhao Wei asked. "Don't you think that it's going to be a little difficult for us to do that? Why do you want to go outside anyway, I've been there, it's nothing pretty."
"Look, the original me, that Grendolyn had a life and everything, she went through the whole thing and made her own decisions." Grendolyn snapped at him. "Me? I'm just a result of those decisions, she'd given away so much of herself that I'm what's left."
"And from the first moment I could remember, I've been in this room with a fear that doesn't even make sense to me." She held her hand to her chest, and for a second her eyes glistened. "So, I don't know about you, but if the last thing I'm going to see when I die is these four walls, I'd rather kill myself right now and save me the wait."
She looked at a dumbstruck Zhao Wei with a single tear coming down her eye.
"I'm sorry.." she wiped her face on her sleeve, "we've just met and I'm putting all these things on you.."
"No.. it's fine.." Zhao Wei said as he scratched his head.
"It's just that your the first other person I've been able to talk to.. my only other conversational companions so far are the golems, but you keep talking to yourself long enough and you begin to wonder how crazy you are." She slumped against her bed.
