Chapter 91 - Day 23: Memory - Part 10 (Barrage)

The other leaders continued to disperse through the crowd as they now had only one thing on their minds. War. They continued to shout at their groups while the charged forward.

The creatures that could fly rose higher up in the air. Quite a distance away from the World Tree now, they were able to ascend safely unlike those that tried before.

The ancient snail slid off as well as other spotted snails surrounded her. "LET'S GO KILL THEM ALL!" she continued to shout as the morale of her army rocketed to a new high.

Like royalty, the masses parted as she slid by. Snails, muscular beasts, insects, hares, sharp-horned deer, mystical beasts all bowed their head momentarily in a show of respect as she passed by. But still, none of them stopped. Although they were riled up and completely willing to fight, they managed to somehow stay in a rough formation under directions by their own leaders.

In the distance, I saw the approaching beasts of the World Tree. In the lead was a pack of... lions or a centaur? With a head of a lion, a muscular upper body and four hooved feet they charged at the front of their group. Powerful and gigantic, they towered over the scene roaring in the process. More beasts of similar stature followed behind them as they too didn't look intimidated at all.

Glee shined in their eyes as they got closer. Slobber dripped down their mouths as they eyed the group in front of them as if their dinner was served which was something I could relate to.

100 metres.

"PREPARE!" my great-grandmother shouted as she called out. "PREPARE!" another leader echoed as they approached.

80 metres.

"SECOND AND THIRD GROUPS REMEMBER YOUR TRAINING!" She shouted out towards her left and her right as if they had already planned something.

50 metres.

"READY!" she shouted as the leaders in front of her repeated her words. Quil covered beasts similar to porcupines seemed to puff up and enlarge like puffer-fish. Standing upright, they continued to sprint forward as the groups around them parted giving them room.

25 metres.

"FIRE!"

"FIRE!"

"FIRE!"

Shouts filled the air as numerous leaders shouted out.

Instantly, quills were launched into the air by their hosts as they sprayed into the air as the sounds of wooshes drowned out everything else. It was as if someone was launching fireworks.

Ping. Ping. Ping. Thump. Thump. Thump.

A barrage of spears landed into the distance as the group of lion hybrids were bombarded as a dust cloud formed above them.

Roars and screams filled the air as the quills continued to land and destroy the Earth.

My ancestor slid forth once more and climbed atop a furry beasts shoulder she stared through the dust as her eyes glowed bright yellow.

"SECOND GROUP, READY!" she shouted as roars echoed through the air in reply.

"BURN THEM TO A CRISP! SHOW THEM NO MERCY!" she shouted.

"FIRE TWO! FIRE TWO!" the other leaders shouted out.

Another line of creatures appeared. Glowing red, their mouths blazed as black coloured balls were launched out of their mouths and levitated in the air before they were launched forward in a small arc. I could feel it... waves of immense magical power.

'It's not going to make it.' I thought as I watched the orbs fly through the air. Barely making it 5 metres through the air, they began to drop downwards.

Another shout blasted through the air.

"LEVITATE!" my ancestor called.

"LEVITATE!" the other's around her repeated.

Barely able to see around the bodies, I slid higher into the air as I glanced at the creatures moving below me. Slowly dull amorphous blob-like creatures stood. Their long ears that hung from their sides were suddenly raised. As if they had complete control of the dark balls, the balls were lifted upwards with their motion.

"SEND THEM IN!" my ancestors yelled as she waved. "GIVE THEM HELL!" she shouted as the black balls soared through the air.

Slowly the dust from the previous barrage began to clear as the smell of death reached me.

Pierced and pinned like voodoo dolls, the lion-like creatures were completely decimated as those behind them didn't fare any better. Bloody holes, severed limbs and splattered organs littered around the ground. A look of fear frozen upon their dead bodies.

Those that were missed by the barrage stood in shock.

Barely one percent had died, but the statement that the scene gave off was clear.

We will not be messed with and you will all die for looking down on us.

Although they gawked, my great-grandmother didn't let them stay stunned for long. Their respite lasted seconds before the dark balls soared above their heads and...

... detonated.
