Chapter 74 - Day 22.95: Cannibals.

Five Frostfangs all a third of my size. What's 5 times 1/3? 5/3 or 1.6 with the six constantly repeating? Aren't I smart? So theoretically, they would win in a fight right? Because size was everything.

And that was what I was afraid of.

My haughtiness disappeared and the danger in front of me became more apparent.

Five Frostfangs, all smaller carbon copies of their father, began to dance around in a flurry of movement of limbs. Hopping one way, shifting another. It was hard for me to determined their direction. A tap here. A tap there. I quickly shifted my head around as I tried to swipe at them. All of the attacks were feints and all of my swipes were misses.

Hopping in joy with each miss. I felt my anger grow.

'This isn't going anywhere.' I thought as I stared down ad the hairy beasts in front of me.

As if they could follow my mood, the decided to crank up with their attacks.

Stings.

The feeling of pin needles puncturing my body spread as they began to prick my body all over - thankfully, there wasn't any poison mixed in.

I kept turning and swiping, but in my limited range of motion, I couldn't get to them.

With each miss, I was hit by three more limbs from another direction.

Tick. Tick. Tick.

Surprisingly the hits were light. Almost... powerless in a sense. Having just been born, their muscles were probably. Flimsy like a newbie going to the gym for the first, they probably couldn't lift a thing. But what they lacked in strength they made up with their speed and mobility.

Tick. Tick. Tick.

My health decreased with every-hit and if this became a battle of attrition, I would have lost eventually as my life ticked away and they agilely evaded my attacks.

Used to the Frostfangs tactics of feints followed by attacks, I stopped myself from attacking.

I paused as I took in a barrage of hits.

'Think.' I told myself as I began to calm down some. 'Plan. Need a plan.'

Instead of blinding swiping forward at their attacks I tried to predict them.

A feeling.'From the left.' I thought in a split second. But with my eyes, I saw a blur on my right. Two conflicting feelings. I didn't know which one to chose so I swept my body to the right as I reflexively reacted.

I was wrong.

Instantly two jabs came at me from my left as my health decreased just a bit more. 70%. 69%. 68%. 68%. With every little hit, my health decreased just a tiny bit. But with every hit, I was nearing death.

I tried predicting from once more.

From the right! I exclaimed as I reacted to the feeling as I watched a blur come out from the left. Once again. I reflexively launched towards to right to grab at my meal but failed. It was another faint.

Tick. Tick. Two hits from my left.

Time passed and my body didn't listen to me. Instantly reacting to movement, it moved on its own and my mouth with it.

55%... 53%... 45%...

My health began to slowly slip and so did my reaction time as I felt the effects of [Devourer's Euphoria] and [Euphoric Rush] slip off suddenly.

I slumped downwards and finally dodged a hit. Not by instinct or reaction, but by chance.

My movements slowed. But they slowed as well. Panting with each movement, they were also growing tired from their agile movements, but they were nowhere near as tired as I was.

'I... I need to stop reacting with my eyes.' I told myself as I was hit with another flurry of hits while I was unable to react anymore.

32%.

I knew that couldn't let them attack me any longer.

I clenched my eyes shut. No light. Just dark.

In my dark mental world. I focused as hard as I could on their movements. Their bodies, their vibrations. My intuition. A feeling of getting hit.

Seconds passed by as I was hit by another barrage of pokes.

And then.

I felt it. The premonition of getting hit. A presence from both the left and from my right. A pincer attack from both sides.

Swinging my body around in a full circle, I used my head that was free from any webbing to attack. Barely grazing a foot on my left I continued to rotate my body around as tried to attack the assailant on my right.

My head spun with the movement.

Smack. A soft touch as my body impacted its body.

I satisfyingly released all my might into that one attack.

Boom it hit the wall. Through the blurry dizziness, I watched. Flying through the air it crumpled against the wall as the room vibrated from the hit.

'Snail 1. Frostfang's 0.' I thought as I felt the pricks of more attacks from behind me. But I ignored them and continued to stare at the juvenile that had been hit.

Crumpled in a mess, it tried to get back up as if it seemed unfazed by my attack, but... it couldn't. Its limbs were broken and bent in weird shapes it struggled to move. Lame. It became lame. Screeching out in terror, the other four Frostfangs that were surrounding my body hopped backwards as quickly as they could pulling a thin layer of mist with them.

With eyes drawn to the screech, they looked around at each other.

Terror? Fear? No. None of those showed in their eyes. But what I did see was hunger. Rampant hunger. The same hunger that I was feeling from just watching the squirming body.

They acted on it. Jumping on their crippled sibling's body and completely ignoring me, they raised their fang as they sunk their teeth in.

Slurp.

The sound of slurping entered my head as they sunk their teeth into their fallen sibling. Spasming violently in distress, the fallen Frostfang struggled as it tried to defend itself.

But how could it?

The strong will always feed on the weak. The law of the forest. Just like I fed on their eggs and their father... they were feeding on their crippled sibling.

Horrifying, the swarm of tiny babies joined as well.

A feeding frenzy.

'How... how can it just eat its sibling like that?' I questioned in my head as I had almost done the same in my extreme hunger.

I looked worriedly. Not because that the site was grotesque in any way, but what was happening as a result as my own life was paralleled against theirs. Was I destined to eat my siblings as well?

Seconds later, the Frostfang that I had crippled was no more.

A dry husk remained in its place. A gruesome fact of nature.

Instantly, the other four Juveniles turned towards me with the same hunger in their eyes. I could tell that their brethren wasn't enough. Hungering. They hungered for my delicious juices and as I knew that they wanted more.

Just like how I wanted a bite out of them.
