Ugg, I want to go to sleep, but there's no time for that. More urgently, I need to review what I've learned. I toss and turn on the bed as I start to think back on the events of the day.
To start with, during our meal, I had asked Lily several questions, her first response surprised me.
"By the way, as you know, I'm not from around here. So, I was wondering what the language we're speaking is called here." (Adam)
I was hoping she would respond with English, but her reaction was far more remarkable. She tilted her head and looked questioningly at me.
"We can only speak the language of the humans and demi-humans, so why would we call it anything else? It's impossible for people to speak the language of monsters and animals, so why is it necessary to specify?" (Lily)
Is it possible they don't have the concept of language here? That would actually be quite convenient! I could speak to anyone, anywhere! Or, perhaps this is simply too secluded of a location for other languages to be known? As the meal continued, I asked her for another explanation and got a more satisfying answer this time.
"Another thing I'm curious about is the currency here, can you explain it to me?" (Adam)
"I'll try my best! There are 3 materials and each have three potential values. In ascending order they are the small copper, copper, large copper, small silver, silver, large silver, small gold, gold and large gold coins. Each coin is worth ten of the previous coin. So, for example, three large silvers are the same as 300,000 small coppers. Ten coppers is approximately what it takes to get a decent meal. Small coppers are usually only used for precision for things sold by weight." (Lily)
Hmmm, based on the meal estimate, ten coppers should be equal to somewhere between five to ten dollars. Based on how cheap the inn is using that estimate, I don't think there's an exact conversion. I'll just have to learn the value of things using this new system.
Now, what I've been putting off. What I learned from Jeff. I'm in a small unnamed village in the kingdom of Eurogania. I don't know what continent I'm on. And, based on everything that I've learned up to this point... I'm not in my world anymore. This seems unrealistic, which is why I had been denying it up to this point, but there are very few other explanations. There are four, no, five ways to categorize my potential situation.
Possibility one, another dimension. Assuming that cross dimensional travel is possible, perhaps I landed myself in another dimension. This explanation is one of the most confusing ones, because I don't understand dimensional travel myself. Perhaps, for some reason, 'God' decided to transport me here? I see no logical reason why at the moment of my death I would cross dimensions, so I find this possibility unlikely.
Possibility two, another planet. Let's say, theoretically speaking, that humans invented space travel long ago. Then, they traveled to other planets, or potentially earth. Based on the lack of historical record, I'd say it would be more likely earth wasn't the original planet. Then, earth wouldn't be aware of the technology, people, animals or even matter, that makes up the other worlds. If one world had more advanced technology, or had different resources, perhaps they could transfer someone to their own, or another planet? This possibility at least seems less far fetched then the previous one.
Possibility three, another time. I could have, theoretically speaking, been transported to another time. This world doesn't differ too drastically from certain historical periods, and the parts that don't match up could be historians mistakes. Alternatively, this could be the future. This wouldn't require defying the laws of physics as much, but this doesn't seem like a future world either. Finally, either possibility doesn't fit with the existence of demi-humans. Perhaps, demi-humans are simply adaptations of the human race, that hadn't developed yet or went extinct? This possibility I consider about equally as likely as the second.
Possibility four, it's all a simulation. Maybe, when my body parts were donated to science, my brain was hooked into some simulation? This possibility is difficult to prove one way or another, but I still find it unlikely. This world feels far too real and the people in it too life like to be a simulation. You could say that the other people here are also hooked into the simulation, but there's no way anyone could get away with that in my old world. And, if my old world was also a simulation, then this would be the same as 'God' having me hop dimensions, like in possibility one. This possibility seems unlikely, primarily, because the physics here seem way too good to be a simulation.
Possibility five, I'm dreaming. Well, it's here again. Am I dreaming? I don't think so? But, who can really say? If I am, then it doesn't really change any of my actions anyways. So, despite being the likeliest possibility, I probably need to worry about it the least. If it ends up being the case, only time can make a difference. In the mean time, I should enjoy this world as much as possible!
Finally, one last thing. Something that can, but also can not fit with all the listed possibilities. There's magic here. Yep, magic! I haven't witnessed it myself, but Jeff mentioned it in our conversation. It seems that most people in this world can use magic to some extent. Apparently, there used to be many people extremely talented at magic, but the numbers are dwindling. There are also things like pills, potions and formations in this world. I plan to study the intricacies of all these things when I have the chance!
**Yawn**
For now, I believe that's everything I wanted to think about. Now, finally, time for some well deserved rest! I move my right arm under my pillow and my left under my chest. Thank goodness, wherever this might be, they still have decent pillows!
