We arrive at the campsite five minutes later, screaming that the barbarians are coming and quickly everybody gets on formation.
The barbarians attack us on two waves, first with a squad made of the males that were not used in the sacrifice this time. They were no challenge to our long shields and were easily disposed of, though they created a diversion that the women used to attack us on a pincer attack.
They were quick and more mobile, succeeding in attacking the shield formation on the sides. But without the surprise factor on their side and without the strengthening of the ritual our weapon superiority was deciding the battle.
In the middle of the fight I recognize Sabrina, she was beheading one of our guys. Thinking that this is the only opportunity that I would get I ran towards her and screamed her name, she got startled. I throw aside my shield and shoot myself towards her knees tackling her. I get on top of her grabbing her hands.
—I'm letting you go, I'm letting you go. Don't try to kill me for a moment. God told me your name— I say, lying about the last part— I know you were going to make some sacrifices and rituals and everything went wrong, you were going to rip some heart alive and stuff, I know you understand what I am saying. Your people lost this fight, look around, but I am going to let you go so you don't end up dead or as a slave—
She seems to take what I was saying surprisingly well.
—Now, you are going to struggle, kick me or something and run toward the woods. My name is Augustus, I serve in the X Iron Legion our base it's north, if you need help look for me somehow—.
After I say the last part I release her hands and she puts my back towards the ground.
—Ok, boy. You sound crazy but you are right we lost here—. She says as she knocks me out.
I get conscious a few minutes later, I see Centurion Marco cutting in half one of the last barbarians with a pole axe.
We lost seven of our guys, killed 65 enemies, mostly men, and took 15 prisoners. Around five or ten escaped. We did good, and I got close to the thing Tohth asked me to.
