Chapter 98: Final Pulse
Amphere Harrison
"Hraaaaah!" I screamed. The first casualty of this battle is a rifleman who failed to pull the trigger and got his head smacked by the flat part of the edge of my photon blade. The other four Arcadians reacted by charging to me with their swords, which I completely parried.
I made a step back, but their attack doesn't end there! They fired multiple bullets from every direction! I ran around to dodge the projectiles. Those bullets that can't be evaded was parried by my sword, one by one. The Arcadian riflemen stopped firing when they realized that they are just wasting bullets.
But they are not wasting bullets. I got hit in the right biceps, left hand, my left femur, right foot, right shoulder, and graze on my neck. About twelve bullets in total hit me, but none of them hit my vital organs.
"VIVA ARCADIA!!!" Five swordsmen made their way to me and gave a slash, hack, and thrust! I managed to evade by sidestepping, parrying, and blocking their attacks, but then another wave of Arcadian melee fighters attacked me. I got caught by three blades on my back, which unfortunately, failed to reach my spine.
Suddenly, I felt a sharp object slash through my left kidney. Because of the attack, I rolled on the dust and had my mouth spurt with blood. I was not able to realize the pain of losing an organ because I was focused on the outer threats as their attacks never ends! There are about six dragonoids that jumped and ready to pin my body with the ground with their swords!
I used my feet to spin, relocating my limbs and body parts to evade those sword stabs barely from these terrorists. With the help of my adrenaline, I punched, kicked, and smashed them out to destination fucked. All the swordsmen who previously attacked me are now down.
I was hardly catching my breath as I stood up, but then I find myself open, directly catching all the machine gun bullets with my body. It was worth about two hundred bullets…those are the attacks I took in just a matter of ten seconds of being subject to open fire. But unlike my any other past fights, I was unable to feel pain. I can no longer feel my limbs, but I can still move them.
"Die!" It was a shout from my back. Suddenly, a sword's edge emerged out of my chest. That backstab hit the right spot; my heart.
Suddenly, all other dragonoids charged and focused on thrusting my torso. About ten swords literally broke my heart, and blood has been splattered everywhere; to the ground, to my feet, to the Arcadians' face, and to their leather uniform. And then they withdrew all their swords out of me at the same time in a synchronized manner.
So this is my end.
There, I felt that all my strength is leaving me. I fell unto my knees. My eyes felt heavy as I closed it. And find myself in a completely white place.

"I told you to stay alive, totally…"
It was the voice I've been longing to hear! When I opened my eyes, I saw the woman I love. Airi. Her adorable face, scarlet silky hair, and passionate ruby eyes are her definitive cues! Before I was able to open my mouth to speak, she shushed me. And then she held her chest as she smiled beautifully.
"Activating Final Pulse."
[Report Cancelled]
I then realized that I was standing on my feet once again, holding this photon sword. I checked on my body and found out that I no longer have a functioning heart, but still, I can feel the warmth of it. Is this…Airi's gift?
I looked at the faces of the dragonoids around me, who appears to be bewildered and shocked. "It can't be!" One of them muttered. "His heart has been shredded to pieces, how come is he still alive and standing?"
"Are you all just gonna stand there all day, or are we gonna fight?" I shouted arrogantly while blood spurt out of my nose and mouth every time I change a syllable. I can feel the stinging pain of the blood in my eyes, but I'm sure…I still have the power of the Eye of Deus left inside of me! Even if I can't use it the same as before, It's enough to take most of them!
I held my chest and shouted. "Overloading Vesryn Pulse!"
Instead of having multiple-headed giant dragons, I was only able to control their heartbeat rate. I stopped most of their hearts for a brief period of time, resulting into their fatigue. I overdid it, so some got their hearts completely stop. But there were still few survivors who chose to continue this fight!
Swords have clashed, rifles have fired, and blood was spilled. Even if I was directly caught by the enemies' attacks, I no longer feel pain. My bones are harder than steel that I even used my arms to shield myself from their blades. My internal organs became more tattered as bullets pass through my body. So this is how a zombie feels like.
As minutes goes by, more and more dragonoids were put down. Some of them lost their will to fight and cowardly flee the area. But there are still Arcadians who are willing to fight with their beliefs and their lives. I dashed forward, completely ignoring the projectiles that hit me, and continued to smash them with my sword, kicked them in the face, and punch them on the throat. I would like to minimize the casualty if possible, but I know that I have already killed hundreds, if not thousands of them.
Airi…I do have a reason for taking them up. I want them to focus all their hatred unto me, and not on the Alterran Empire. I did not come this far to have the imminent peace be ruined by Dragunov's after-war-plans. I want them to put all their anger to me, to channel them.
I will be the greatest villain for all the dragonoids. And once I'm gone, I shall take all the sins, the burdens, the abhorrence to my grave.
I finally find myself standing in a mountain of corpses. Finally, the chaotic noises have stopped. My vision started to get blurred, and I feel that my legs…no, my whole body is losing strength. I looked at the broken photon sword which reflected my body face.
"So this is how it ends…" I made a single laugh. "Everything went well according to my plan."
I found myself falling to the ground, unable to move anything. Neither my fingers nor my eyeballs. My eyes were redirected to the peaceful clouds of the clear blue skies. There was a gigantic floating piece of metal that darkened the skies, and I can hear the hurling sound of an engine. It must be the S.S. Liberty.
"Amphere!" A face of a twelve-year-old dragonoid went to my side and held my right hand. It was the kid Gazelle, who had this tears running through his cheeks. "Hang in there! We'll carry you to the airship."
"…Heh...Too late." Miraculously, I was able to move my lips and utter a reply.
"No, Amphere! Stay with us! You don't have to suffer the same fate with big sister Airelina!"
Sadly, I know this is my time Gaz. I wanted to tell him, but the synapses never went pass through my mouth. Gaz continued to scream, shout, and cry, but I already failed to hear any of them. Everything was silent, at least to my perspective.
I used all my remaining strength to move my left hand and touched Gaz's blind eye. I smiled. After two seconds, my hand ceased to function. And just like that, he was able to see with both eyes again.
Involuntarily, my lips moved. My lungs ejected the clotting blood out via cough, and then I was able to say my final words.
"…I…have…finally…created…a world…of…freedom…"
I closed my eyes.
And the next time I open it, Gaz was no longer there on my side. Instead, a woman with beautiful star-like eyes welcomed me. Her blushing cheeks made a genuine smile. And her scarlet long hairs have this butterfly-like bow, which must've been the most important handkerchief in my life. I instinctively raised my hand.
"Airi… please let me fly with you once again."
"Totally!" Airi laughed.
As her warm hands held mine's, she pulled me up to the skies. She opened her white angel wings, and we proceeded to go to the paradise where absolute freedom and unending happiness resides.
