Karen had felt like her world had been taken, shaken and then shattered all over the floor, her brain was still picking up the remaining pieces as she felt like smashing herself against the wall to just end this horrible brain nightmare. She would stare over at Darrien as he seemed like a kid with a box of chocolates and was told that it was all his.
"This is impossible, you have had no magical talent, I've been with you since you came to our family and you never had any point of talent."
She would feel slightly worried, she knew that certain demonic creatures could give power in contract with him, she really did not want to spend the next several nights chasing down demonic creatures to kill them to forcefully end a soul contract.
"Oh, after I touched the book, it seemed to give me these powers, I was then chased by this strange monster creature. It was like a mix between a centipede, mantis and dung beetle. I used these new powers to banish it" He would continue to describe the encounter with a beast and then throwing it out into the open to get killed by the guards.
Karen felt her head pounding as she knew that this beast was possibly a Class two demonic beast, these beasts were dangerous and could kill average humans with ease and low level magical casters would struggle and die against them, she would even struggle to kill this thing in an enclosed space like that, yet this new mage apparently escaped it many times, then eventually used a wall of wind to force it out like some sort of fun slide.
"I think I may be on drugs, this is just not possible. What you told me just does not make sense!" she would begin to shake her head, slowly holding her head, if this monster gave him powers then it would be a Class 4 beast and would have killed him easily enough, yet the creature was apparently now dead by the angels, this would eliminate any powers he had gotten.
"I hate you right now, you are making no sense DARRIEN!"
Darrien would just continue to play with the wind, it was at this point that she felt like spitting out blood, how could she not even see the basics right in-front of her, he was not even using a ritual or chanting, he was simply using his powers freely.
"Chantless and Ritualess!"
She felt her eyes bulging out of her face as she would slap his hand. "Stop it, do you know how much trouble you can get into if caught. You are someone without any training yet you have become Chantless and Ritualess"
Darrien was again confused, looking at her as he would just pull over a snack bag, having the wind feed him the snacks, again getting smacked across his face as he eventually put the bag down with the wind. "S..sorry, its just so cool!"
Karen would push him onto the old leather chair, standing in front.
"Since you are a complete utter new person to this. Ill let you know that magic is activated either two ways, through chanting or rituals, these methods allow the magic to get pulled correctly into a form, since you did neither you have basically just broken the mould set out for most mages. I have a fire ritual on my sword to imbue it with flames. If I want to do it without a ritual then it will take almost six seconds of chanting to do the basic spell."
She would then shake her head again as she would rub her forehead. "You have been tested for elemental magic and came up with a very low or zero percent which means you should not be able to do this, the magic you describe is something to a Wind Mage with almost 60% or even closer to 70% affinity, affinity cant be raised easily if at all. Its a thing you are born with. Do you see the issue?"
Darrien just continued to smile, his features giving his a big dumb look.
"I'm just a late bloomer?" he said joking, though as he watched Karen's hand starting to raise, he would raise his own. "Ok! Sorry, please no more hitting me, I'm a fragile good!"
Karen would just drop her hand and sigh, slowly a new problem came into her mind.
"Did you show this power to anyone else. Answer me honestly."
Darrien would think back for a few moments, his mind had been pretty bad but he could clearly say that during the fight with the monster, he had not encountered anyone else and during the expelling of the creature into the public, he had not been seen, well he hoped at-least.
"Not that I can remember"
Karen would sigh with relief, she would have to do some horrible work if she had to clean up, she was part of a powerful clan but she hated using influence of them to do dirty work. She would slowly lean against the back wall, releasing some of the stress that had built up.
"Ahh, I may have accidentally shown the Elven woman at the local convince store next to the apartment block!"
Karen would stiffen straight up, staring at the man as she felt like strangling him, using her bare hands to choke that wind magic right out of his lungs.
"You idiot! Those stores have cameras, that will be on social media in moments if they want."
She was furious, her hands felt like just pulling out her sword and skewering the man.
"Look, I have work in about an hours time, how about you go look and speak to the woman, I'm sure she will understand. I'll go do my job otherwise Ill be homeless and neither want that"
Karen would frown as she was about to agree, though she was also about to bring up her point of moving in.
"I'm not moving in with you Karen."
He would briskly refuse as he knew what she was going to say, he had shared rooms with her since he was younger, he knew that it would be a nightmare, she was sloppy and untidy and he knew he would just rage.
"Fine, I'll go to the store now. I think I know the Elven woman you are talking about"
She would swiftly leave, shaking her head as Darrien would sit down, holding his head before sighing, his phone buzzing as he had a new text message.
"Hey, Its Vanessa. Can you come in as soon as possible to help out?"
Darrien sighed, he had dealt with one woman who was hard to handle, now to deal with another.
