Returning to a serious expression, Jen said: "Now that I think about it what should I call you? And how did you become my Dahl?"
A silhouette of a crow appeared out of thin air. Strangely, it didn't seem to be real. This change shocked Jen but with everything he had gone through the night, he was not even in the mood to question the method used by the crow.
The Crow didn't seem to be in the mood to joke anymore and said: "Kid you can call me Corvus. I am a sovereign constellation."
Jen was now in disbelief: "A sovereign constellation!"
He had seen records in his clan of ancient legends that mentioned precisely this sovereign constellations. The information was very brief but it recounted how they discovered that these constellations were linked to the most famous legend in the Medes continent.
This was a story that was often told to children and his grandfather also had read it to him, but Jen always thought it was nothing more than a myth.
He then remembered something more about sovereign constellations and hurriedly took a small tattered book from his bag.
It was in this bag that Jen carried all his important supplies and his money, naturally, Jen was not too worried about it being stolen. Because considering his skills, if a thief was capable of stealing from him it was also capable of killing him. Also, a thief of that caliber would probably select top relics and treasures as his objective instead of some gold and miscellaneous stuff. In any case, if anyone was going to try and steal from him they most likely will try to steal his saber, not some random shabby bag.
Jen's gaze paused on the book, when he was younger he used to carry this book everywhere as if it was a treasure. This was something that his mother had left behind for him, he would frequently speak to the book as if his mother was really listening. Perhaps there was also a glimmer of hope that they would one day return looking for him, however, as time passed he started to feel resentment due to his parents abandoning him. This, in addition, to being subjected to humiliating situations all his life left him bitter and unhappy with his parents, but as he matured there was no longer hatred only sorrow.
This was most probably the object with the most sentimental value after his saber, although he didn't read it anymore. We can say that Jen was focused fully on improving and studying, it was already a miracle not to break down under the amount of pressure there was on his shoulders. Obviously, he had no time to read it anymore.
In this book, there was modified version of the legend that recounted the creation of the universe and the formation of constellations. In here, they mentioned briefly sovereign constellations. Unfortunately, it only contained a few pages as the others were missing. Jen caressed the book cover gently with his hand and then opened it.
He started reading slowly almost to himself as if remembering those times when he used to read it every day.
"In the beginning, there was only Chaos. It was when both time and space didn't exist, in this nothingness a vortex surged. From this vortex, the first primordial gods and the different races were birthed.
At first, the gods were confused they didn't know anything about the world, they could only feel that they have connected with everything thanks to this strange energy, with time they started to communicate and explore with the different beings. All living beings lived in harmony with this energy they had termed as dominion energy, but as eons passed and there seemed to be something missing to the all the different races and the gods. They felt empty, they desired for something more... power.
Conflicts arose and a war started brewing, catastrophes befell the different races and many of them were extinguished forever. When the gods finally noticed what was happening it was already too late, they stopped fighting but the world was in ruins. They discovered that the original dominion energy that flowed everywhere was now impossible to absorb by the new generations, only those from the period before the primordial war could.
With guilt and sorrow, they devised a system that would restore the natural course of the world. They used the remaining of their strength to convert the corpses of the powerful beings that had fallen and created constellations with them, in the process, they also used their own bodies to become constellations.
The primordial era had finally ended, all races worshipped the gods for their noble sacrifice to amend the error of everyone. The new generations started absorbing energy from the constellations but not much time passed when they noticed that runes, of the beings they absorbed the dominion energy from, started appearing on their bodies.
The different races were naturally surprised by this phenomenon and started studying it. They discovered that these runes were the natural energy circulation that they had been born with. In the end, they called this tattoos Dahl.
But not only that, they also reached the conclusion that depending on the power from where they absorbed the dominion energy their powers will differ. The noblest and powerful constellations naturally selected the most talented individuals as they were the only ones capable of managing their power. This created a balance within the world and soon enough powerful beings resurfaced again, the heirs of the gods.
These individuals possessed sovereign Dahls, with the powers bestowed by the sovereign constellations they could manipulate the world at their will.
Precisely, the founder of our anc-."
The page finished there, it was apparent that the rest of content had been torn apart.
Corvus nodded lightly and said: "That is indeed accurate and it is also the reason for the different races possession of the Dahl."
Corvus then continued: "In spite of the passings of countless years, the bodies of this primordial beings still emit dominion energy. This leads to the situation where with time, a consciousness starts to form with the base of this energy. Therefore, we can say that I am the offspring of the god Corvus and you are naturally the inheritor of his legacy."
Jen felt like if he was in a dream: "A sovereign constellation..." He muttered quietly.
He had always thought it was nothing more than a legend, besides he could have never guessed that Dahl's could actually form sentience. This felt so unreal for him.
Corvus didn't seem to notice Jen's daze and spoke: "Now, what I am confused is how did you possess the original version of the Genesis story? It looks to be the introduction of some kind of clan. But noticing they even possess this, it must not be a simple one."
Jen seemed to be in a daze looking at the book and said without moving his gaze: "It was from my mother, the only thing she left behind." This was all very strange for Jen it only made the mystery of his parents disappearance to be even more shrouded in fog.
He had now returned from his excited expression to a more solemn one. His gaze narrowed down and with a determined expression, he said to Corvus: "Help me become stronger. Strong enough to become an indomitus, strong enough to become a... god."
