No words could describe the mess that filled the skies. The adjective that closest fit the bill would probably be... chaos. Pure chaos in its most primal form filled the skies.
It was an ancient and eternal war that would late come to be known as the 'Crusade of Dawn'. It was a decision made by the highest of angels in the 7th layer of heaven, a decision to eradicate all demons from existence.
The decision was passed due to the superiority that the Angels believed they held during the period of time later known as the pre-dawn era. The Angels during this era had completely suppressed the demons on all the innumerable fronts of the Centre material plane.
The Angels' sudden attack had caught the demons off guard, and so the demons had been pushed back three planes all the way back to the 3rd layer of hell.
But it was here that the most blood was shed, here that the most angels fell, here that the crusade finally came to an end. It was hard to take over a layer, the further down into hell the Angels descended, the more they were suppressed by the essences of existence, and that combined with the many previously unknown hidden combatants of hell was what finally caused the Angels' downfall, what caused the light of dawn to dim, and gave rise to the post-dawn era.
One such combatant was the great void dragon Angrami, an absolute warrior who stood at the pinnacle of known cultivation and who single-handedly turned the tides of the 36th front for the demons during the great Dawn Crusade in the 3rd layer of Hell.
But what this story is about however isn't Angrami or even the Great Dawn Crusade, but instead a certain vegetable.
This was a relatively unremarkable vegetable. There was nothing special that had ever occurred to this specific choysum vegetable, except.... except that it was growing on a desolate wasteland known as the 36th front of the 3rd layer of hell during the Great Dawn War.
It was the only life to witness this spectacle as an outsider, of course it was just a vegetable, but it was the ONLY vegetable to live through the extent of the carnage from the very beginning to the bitter end.
The corpse of a great rockshell devil fell onto this choysum without crushing it, a nigh-indestructable devil which ultimately allowed that very choysum to live through the sea of dragonfire that razed the ground.
Being a vegetable in a great war such as this actually was quite beneficial.
The blood of infinite numbers of angels and demons rained from the sky, dying the lands red, this blood contained within it the similarly infinite spiritual essences of those beings. A vegetable living through this would be empowered just by absorbing the smallest quantity of such blood, and not only was this vegetable nourished by the blood of countless angels and demons, but crucially not just any old demon, but Angrami, Great Dragon Lord of the Void.
