The Emperor was walking past the kitchens as he noticed a maid walking the same direction a little ways way. She was carrying a small tray with two bowls on it. There was only one palace that direction so he caught up to her quickly.
"Who is that for?" He asked, dareing not to hope. There had been no change when he left to see that dignitary off, why would there be food headed toward his rooms now. The fragrant broth filled his nose and he smiled. Hope beginning to light a tiny fire in his heart.
"The new physician suggested broth for Empress, and Lord Mordrin asked that I bring a meal for the physician as well. She has not eaten anything either." The Maid explained and the Emperor smiled.
"Then we shall go together, shall we?" He asked as he continued down the hallway at a slightly faster pace. The door to his room was closed, and he paused for a full minute before opening it, preparing himself for what he was expecting to see. She may not be awake, he can't expect too much.
As he walked in, he saw Kyera sitting next to the bed and his wife still asleep on her back. The Emperor looked at Eve and he realized her face had more color too it and her breathing was soft and relaxed. There was a certain tone to it that was soothing, as if she was sleeping differently some how.
"Your Majesty." Kyera greeted bowing as he entered the room careful to keep her head tilted up slightly, hiding the weakness at the back of her neck. A subtle thing that he didn't notice.
"Lady Kyera, when did you return?" He asked raising an eyebrow as he walked over to her Eve. He gently ran his hand through her hair, placing a gentle kiss to her forehead. Evelyn murmured in her sleep. He could barely hear her but there was something as she shifted into a more comfortable position. The Emperor's heart quivered at the sound. "Evie, its me love…" He whispered against her ear, wondering if she could hear him or if she would respond.
"Emperor, don't wake her yet. Please let her rest. She is doing much better now." Kyera offered, trying to coax him back a bit. Pushing her too hard would not help anyone. He nodded, and reluctantly gave her a bit of space. "Did your son not find you?" she asked wondering why he seemed so surprised to see her getting better.
The maid walked into the room and settled the tray down on the table. She uncovered it and set the noodle nest into the steaming broths so it could cook. She nodded and left without another word, figuring her job was done. Kyera took the spoon and tasted both broths to make sure they were identical. The flavor was amazing, and she didn't' taste anything off. However, she decided to wait a while before feeding the soup to the Empress.
"No, were there changes while I was at court?" The Emperor asked, sitting down next to her on the bed. Kyera watched him and was surprised to see the amount of concern he was showing. It seemed genuine to her, heart warming.
"Yes, actually. I managed to find what was ailing her and remove it with Clovis watching on. I predict that she will recover soon for the most part. We are concerned that she may not have use of her legs, but otherwise she should be fine." Kyera broke the news quickly, not wanting to go through it again. She had sincerely hoped she wouldn't have to tell the spouse this. If he couldn't accept it… she would have a hard time understanding….
"Then I will be her legs." The Emperor replied firmly, watching her face still. He didn't seem to care that there was damage. "Her mind is what I loved most, as long as it is intact, the rest matters."
Kyera couldn't help but grin as she saw the small twitch to the corner of Evelyn's lips. She went to stand only for the Emperor to look at her.
"Where are you going?" He demanded.
