Chapter 7 - A Dark Undercurrent part 1

The Bearer looked at Han Huo for a minute before stabbing his sword into the ground. He slowly lifted his right hand to his mask and his left hand to his hood. He removed his hood revealing a long mane of grey hair. After a moments pause he finally removed his mask.

Soon a face so pale that it seems it hasn't been ever been touched by daylight was revealed. The Bearer's face was triangular with a strong jaw and high cheekbones that brings out his jaw line even more. He had one red eye and a grey eye afflicted by blindness, these eyes where slightly sunken but yet seemed to contain the stars within.

His looks were spoiled though by a wide scar that went from the top of his left of his forehead over his blind eye down to the bottom of his chin. It was this scar however that made Han Huo get the sense of familiarity. Han Huo searched through his memories as best has he could however every time he came close to remembering it slipped through his grasps like water between his fingers.

As Han Huo continued trying to remember the Bearer smiled revealing jagged and cracked teeth. "I'm not surprised that you don't remember me our encounter was very brief." said The Bearer the smile vanishing from his face as he traced the scar. " We met over-"

"The Desolate Mystic Ruins in the Low Star Gold Sea," interrupted Han Huo "Di Yunzhong, clan leader of the Di family one of the fell families."

The fell families were families that betrayed humankind and fought alongside the demons during the merging war. Many of them participated in actions so violent that some of the 12 Empyrean Saints wanted to deal with them first before the demons. In order to please both sides Setting Yin Empyrean Saint sent 4 armies to chase deal with them while the rest dealt with the demons. Once the demons were defeated and pushed back, the fell families unfortunately still weren't destroyed instead went into hiding. In their hiding they created sects that catered to the dark feelings in humanity becoming deeply involved in the pleasure of power, lust and greed.

These cults grew in size and power. Soon their power grew to the point were they no longer needed to conceal themselves once they revealed themselves and revealed what they had to over millions flocked to their banners. Soon dark times followed as battles, kidnappings, murders and ritual sacrifices plagued the realm.

Finally the cults leaders revealed themselves as members of the fell families. The strongest of all these cults was the Cult of Life led by the Di family. The Cult of Life followed the teachings of the vampire Redfang. Who believed that blood was the source of all power as such they relied on blood sacrifices and taking baths in the blood of their victims.

Once the cults power had stabilized they launched their war against the high noble clans. Fortunately, the war was fairly even and no side could gain ground against the other. Centuries passed and the death toll was in the billions. A sign of hope began to show itself as the war began to drag on the cults interests began to overlap. Betrayal and tensions began to rise between the sects, the high nobles began to exploit this and started to increase the rifts between sects.

These actions began to bore fruit as sects began to finally distance themselves from others becoming individuals instead of united. The high nobles turned to these individuals and brought all their power to bear to completely crush them into dust. Hundreds were destroyed in this process. At the final battle dozens of sects reunited however by this time victory was all but certain. Despite the victory, 15 of the fell families fled some of which identities were unknown.

The Di family was considered by many to be the strongest of the fell families as such they openly declared themselves to the universe and even managed to claim a massive territory calling blood sun empire. Of course their continue survival can mainly be credited due to the support they receive from the other fell families as well as others hiding in the shadow.

Han Huo began to recall all of this information has he looked at Di Yunzhong. Their fight thousands of years ago had happened for the very immortal abode that Han Huo had summoned on that small hill three days ago. They both had stumbled upon the ruins even though Han Huo loves to fight a phenomenon alerting all the forces around the area including the Lu clan which is a part of the high noble caln ranked number eight among them.

At that time Han Huo did not want to waster time with Di Yunzhong so he had stuck out with all his might sending him deep into the sea. Following which Han Huo went straight into the ruins and claimed his prize leaving shortly before anyone else had arrived.

Han Huo woke from his reminiscing and look Di Yunzhong in the eyes. "I doubt all of this is about revenge, right?" said Han Huo. "Especially since I doubt that you will be serving someone you hate willingly."

" At first it did begin as a way of revenge, In order to defeat you I to study you. However as time went on your strength grew more rapidly and I had to try desperately to close the gap. Before I even knew it four hundred ninety five years had pass," said Di Yunzhong as he began walking around the room not taking his eyes off Han Huo. "Then six years ago Pang Yuan here discovered Redfang fortress that is when our current situation began to take place. I enlisted the help of both Pang Yuan and Lin Youyi who are also come from the fell families."

Di Yunzhong had walked around half the room coming to a stop in front of the throne with the skeleton. He surveyed it for a moment before turning back around and facing Han Huo again. "However the hardest part though was getting Sun Ling'er to participate in this. After all she truly loved you but your hard line stance against the fell families and demons made it impossible to join us. Had you though I would've forgotten our little disagreement and stopped seeking revenge." said Di Yunzhong

"So the reason why Ling'er told me not to breakthrough to Saint Emperor was because of this," said Han Huo as a look of sadness was clearly evident in eyes. After a moment it was evaporated into a mass of blazing anger.

"Yes, had you broken through there was no way we could stop you. After all every faction in the universe watches the movements of the emperors should we had called emperors to assist us, other emperors would come to assist you," said the voice of Pang Yuan from behind Han Huo.

Han Huo his head back and looked at Pang Yuan briefly looking at him, then Lin Youyi who kept a beautiful smile on her face, finally he looked at Di Yunzhong. His battle like smile crept into face. "You spent five hundred years along side me and even been on the receiving end of my attacks you know I won't go down so easily,' said Han Huo as he began to take on a battle stance.

Han Huo spread his feet evenly and bent his back leg slightly. His spear head was only a few inches off the ground his left hand was placed directly in the middle while his right hand held the end of it which was by his waist. "I'll tell you a little secret Di Yunzhong. The only reason I gave you the Flame of Alaz is because of me being capable of using Yin laws and having the Flames of Alaz weakened me by nearly thirty percent." said Han Huo as his smile grew bigger.

"Moonlight fades!' Han Huo vanished from his has a soft white light descended on the spot where he was just standing. He reappeared in front of Di Yunzhong and stabbed forth aiming directly below his chin with a vast coldness and full of killing intent.

Di Yunzhong's pupils shrunk as he attempted to block the blow. Despite his best attempt though he had underestimated the strength behind the blow, as he was launched into the air crashing into the wall behind the throne. Han Huo released his a cold qi from his back as it formed a small moon it collided heavily with a sword that came down at an incredible speed.

As the sword was reflected Han Huo raised his right leg and kicked backwards just as Pang Yuan appeared in that spot. Pang Yuan was completely caught off guard by this attack as it landed on chest making him cough up some blood as he was sent flying.

Han Huo whipped his spear around so fast that the spear head turned into nothing but a blur, Lin Youyi ducked under it and delivered a quick jab aimed at the waist of Han Huo. Just as it was about to connect the soft white light reappeared again. Lin Youyi eyes even further as she vanished from that spot as a spear came crashing down leaving a small whole where she was just standing.

In that brief exchange of blows Di Yunzhong had recovered he grasped his sword firmly in both hands raising it above his head. He brought it down as a red cloud appeared in the room. "Blood storm strike." screamed Di Yunzhong as red rain fell from the cloud.

Han Huo looked at the hundreds of thousands of rain drops falling down on him. Each drop containing a massive amount of sword qi and whatever surface they struck it would break apart into tiny pieces. Han Huo drew back his spear and then stabbed upward "Yin tiger roars at the heavens!" roared Han Huo as it was accompanied by a tigers roar. A blue attack in the shape of a tiger streamed forth towards the clouds freezing every drop of rain as it passes.

When the tiger collided with the cloud a shock wave occurred strong enough that Pang Yuan who had just recovered was quickly slammed onto the ground again. A small groan couldn't help escape his lips. When he looked up he saw the ceiling was completely frozen and red in color. Pang Yuan couldn't help but feel shock as he once again recovered. 'Its three against one and yet he still overpowering us.' thought Pang Yuan as he rubbed his neck

Suddenly Pang Yuan felt an incredible sense of danger coming from behind. He swung his sword behind him as fast as he could however it only passed through a black shadow. The sense of danger that Pang Yuan had sense was still as strong as ever. Pang Yuan once again turned this time he saw a body that had no head on his shoulder. Standing in front of this body was Han Huo as his spear was passing through the spot where the bottom of the neck should be.

Pang Yuan couldn't help feel slightly confused as he saw the distance between the body and himself grow larger and a strange sense of lightness. This confusion was the last thing he felt as his consciousness faded into darkness.

Di Yunzhong and Lin Youyi paused as Pang Yuan's head hit the ground. A feeling of fear started to swelled up in them, Di Yunzhong even had the slight feeling of regret. Both of them looked at each other and nodded as they steeled themselves. After a brief pause all three of them vanished from their spots.

Sparks began to fill the room as strikes were exchanged, fire and ice accompanied the winds with each blow, and afterimages appeared fill the room for brief moments before dissipating into smoke.

Thousands of blows were exchanged each one stronger then the last. Di Yunzhong could no longer take it as frustration built up he swung his sword all his might. "The Blood Oni feasts!" as a bright red attack struck through the air and arriving in faster then a blink of an eye in front of Han Huo.

"The Moon steps in front of the sun!" countered Han Huo as a white moon once again appeared with a golden outline appeared. Di Yunzhong collided with the moon causing an explosion that broke Han Huo's hasty defense sending him flying against a pillar.

Han Huo breathed in deeply as blood dripped out of the corner of his mouth. He looked at the two in front of him they were breathing rapidly. They were also covered in injuries Di Yunzhong had three cuts on his face and a deep gash across his chest that had icicles on the edge of it preventing it from healing. Lin Youyi had multiply cuts on her arms as well as hole on her the right side of her abdomen.

Han Huo himself had suffered a small but deep wound into shoulder other then that there was nothing wrong with him. Han Huo brushed the dirt off shoulder as he regained his footing. "You know Di Yunzhong far harder to do if you had brought more people." Laughed Han Huo.

Di Yunzhong's face turned a deep shade of red out of shame and anger but inwardly he couldn't help but admit that what Han Huo said was true. "I-"

"The two of you are not his match. In fact if it wasn't for his love of fighting you both would have lost many moves ago." said a soft but yet deep voice. All three of them turned and looked at the direction that the voice came from. Shock appeared on all of their faces it was Di Yunzhong and Lin Youyi who recovered first though

"General Redfang!" both of them shouted happily as they knelt on the ground. Han Huo looked at the figure now on the throne the skeleton had been replaced by a youthful young man with red hair and red eyes. His aura seemed to draw everything that had life toward him.
