Chapter 1 - Start

Things were very peaceful, fun, enjoyable, and splendid. Now things turned for the worst. Things are different there is no peace all that I hope is that I don't lose myself. That is all that I suppose.

It as when I was ten things were peaceful all was well, but half a year later things went from calm to chaotic, wars started, and lives were lost. Even my father died in the war. Soon the conflict escalated to a point where the countries rulers started sending young boys who turned 15 into the fight. Early schools were teaching the student how to do tactical work. They even showed us magic and how to use a sword.

The training was painful many of the children became riddled with scars. Some of the kids my age had died because the practice was so harsh and also with our fathers, not home we were practically starving since the leaders don't like to pay the soldiers family even for their services. Mothers of the children weren't spent as much as the men when they work. So yes the families were starving. So the families hope were on that the war either ends soon or that the test before their sons go to war that at least one of them is labeled as a hero.

The way that the children are labeled as a hero they need to take a test with their blood. Even girls have to take the test. The tests see if you are compatible with more than one magic, see what their strengths lay, and they also test to see if one pain threshold is. If you go above

and beyond when you take the test, then you are most likely a hero.

Now if you do succeed at being labeled as a hero, supposedly you and your family will be paid. They'll be able to live a peaceful life without worrying about money issues, but there are rumors that the leaders kill the family of the hero. Then they claim that bandits murdered them when they were heading to the heroes coronation to be recognized as a hero by the citizens. Even with that rumor many still wished that being paid is true. So many took that chance.

It is now five years since I was ten now I am officially 15. The day that many kids call the day of doom because most whom are sent to war and never come back alive. Some of the many call war the grave and mentally label you as dead when you turn 15. Many offered prayers to me when I was walking to the town center where the other kids of age 15 gather. Today is the day that many know of and want to hide from, but can't. Many dread this day not because the children will be sent away, but they might never return alive or in one piece. Also many had already given up on being a hero. So when taking this test, many had already given into fate.

Walking to the town center soldiers stood in a box formation. In the center of the soldiers stood a man with a stone in his hand, but the rock was no ordinary stone it was more of a jagged orb the size of one's face. The ball had a faint glow, but the light was not colored. It was just glowing, and it is hard to describe when it was burning.

Later a man who looked like a general walked forward and shouted for us kids to like up to do the test. As everyone lined up, the soldiers moved out of the way of the man in the center of the formation. With a more natural look at the man, the details of what he looked like were different than those that stood around him. He had long hair that was pure white; his outfit was black with gold trim that didn't look like the fake gold trim that you would find on the nobles. His eyes were closed, but you could tell that his looks were more feminine than manly. His face was different from those who were around him, they all had scars while he has no blemishes on his face.

The general looking at the mand shouted with a booming voice, "All those who are of age 15 you will be tested soon! Depending on your results you would be assigned to your squadron. BE RESPECTFUL TO YOUR TESTER!! SIR. JAMES MAD EARL WILL TEST YOU!! HE IS OF ROYAL BOOD!!" Rolling my eyes to myself, I contained the contempt I had for the fact that it is evident that he was not a noble. Looking around it was apparent tho that many of the others at my age were shocked at this information. Now that I think about it many never noticed that the people that came to observe us were nobles when we were learning how to fight. Shaking my head looked forward and realized I was last in line to take the test. There were around 30 other people who stood in front of me some dressed nice, while others wore what were more like rags.

Within less than an hour, there were three groups of people my age who were split into four groups by now. All who were in the groups held clothes that were neatly folded in their hands all of the clothes were of different colors. In the four groups, they were split upon abilities. The group on the far right got green clothes they were the ones labeled as healers. The group to the left of that group had red dresses they were the mages. There was the archer group to the left of them they had brown garments. The far left group had black clothes they are the physical fighters, they're the ones who are sent to the front lines, which means that they die sooner than the others.

Walking forward I was able to tell that depending on the colors which the orb glows then that is the group they are sent to. Whenever one of the others touches the ball, the others hands start to bleed, and they look as if they are in pain, but not a single drop of blood was seen of the ball.

It was mystical, and soon it will be my turn. It may be my beginning or my end. Let's hope for the better. With that, I stepped forward again. Soon it was going to be my turn and soon to be the twist of my fate. With that, I was told to state my name so looking forward I said, " My name is Clev James."
