Heaven, another dimension in this galaxy, side by side with earth. They have what we call Angels as their humanoid-like species. They have the means to whisper into mortals' ears and even come to earth through portals. The ones who are banished to earth are called "the fallen". This is how we know them, and many centuries ago, there was a world, that we would have found so incredibly impossible, that it had to be separated. Each of the beings that are now named fictional, once left their mark on this earth. This is a bit of history from that time. Where magic and all the things we dream of being real, really were. Now we are separated, but one day, we will find a way to mend the rift and combine the worlds as we once did. But first, we must start at the very beginning. When one boy turned King and decided to take the universe and all its dimensions into his own possession, and how one of the fallen rose to power and changed everything as we know it.
The hierarchy of Heaven is much like what we mortal humans are taught; however, they have a different name for their rulers. They call their king, God. Angels live for thousands of years on their own and the royals' lifespans are even longer. They glow with a golden light that surrounds them, and this is how the hierarchy is known. The Court of Heaven is grand and majestic, that glitters and shines with a light of its own. Heaven's colors are brighter, cleaner and what humans would describe as "jewel-like". Each leaf on each tree glitters in the sunlight and when it rains, the crystal-like drops shone more brilliantly than a diamond held to the light.
Now, where we enter the tale, a King - God, Bakeal, had reached the age where he would need to prepare for death. His only child, Abiel was stubborn and craved attention and power. They seemed exact opposites of each other. Bakeal had always been a kind and loving father, friend, and ruler. He showed mercy where it was deserved, and he let little in life remove the smile from his handsome face. His topaz colored hair always hung neatly in a loose braid down his back, between his wings of gold. His sapphire eyes glittered with life and laughter always. He was conservative and always treated everyone he met with a respect that made everyone feel as equally as important as him.
Abiel wasn't so kind. He was kind when his father was around, but had a rumor about how as he aged, he would slap his servants and order them around. His temper was wild, and he loved to chase after the women of the court, including those above and below his age. He was taught manners and proper way of behavior, but only used them when it suited his purpose. But even though he had such a wicked temper, his charm was always there. His smile and his fiery orange eyes under his short, wild blonde hair would make most instantly forgive any indiscretion he made have had.
There were, just as on earth, advisors, councils, and the complete set of officials in the courts. They were hired and fired with each God just to keep the generations even. And at that time, everyone was in a frenzy. Between Bakeal and Abiel, decorating and preparing for the passing of God-hood from father to son, the ceremony was taking longer to plan than usual. But soon the great hall was perfect, and a compromise was reached. Invitations were sent throughout the land, and the soldiers were prepared to stand side-by side with the father and son and defend them to their deaths. The two main soldiers were Maryse and Nycole, they had just been married and held a slight golden glow to mark their closeness to royalty. They were fearless and steadfast, and still so young. They rose so quickly within their ranks that as soon as they got their wings, they were instantly employed by God Bakeal and rose to the best of the best with their skill and knowledge.
Bakeal had just finished dining with his son when he requested some privacy in the library and went through the secret passage to lead him to a secret room of angels who were always hooded and named "The Fates". They alone were the only types of angels who could see into the future, and today that is just what Bakeal was looking for. He had a very strange feeling and he needed his answers.
Two days had passed and Bakeal was looking rather tired. They had celebrated Abiels nineteenth birthday and he was looking around at all the people in the court, rushing to finalize everything. There was nothing that hadn't been looked over, no one in service that hadn't been thanked. It was time to rest before the ceremony, which would take place at sunset.
While Bakeal rested, Abiel was getting dressed and making sure he looked absolutely perfect. The ladies of the courts donned their best dresses and jewels and the soldiers wore their dress armor. Mostly chainmail covered in fabric so that they were protected just in case of attack, but still formal enough to be presentable. Maryse and Nycole were finishing organizing the guards and preparing for any type of emergency.
Once it was time for the ceremony to begin, the guests took their seats in the hall of ceremony, decorated with star flowers, the hall was darkened. The only light came from the silver and golden flowers that glowed softly. First, God Bakeal made his entrance through the double doors and walked calmly and slowly down the aisle. He was adorned with a simple costume, a loose-fitting blue shirt, and topaz pants with a topaz vest. A simple necklace hung over his chest, his most precious gift from his beloved queen that was no longer alive.
The cloak of golden thread was around his shoulders that was the traditional ceremonial robe. It was so long that it dragged three feet behind him. Each God had their own and once they had passed away, their robes were hung next to a portrait of them in their prime Upon his head was the crown of leaves.
Once he climbed up the short set of stairs, he was seated on his grand throne, and he smiled blissfully at the crowd. A group of singers began their song as it was Abiels' turn to make his entrance. Abiel was covered from head to toe in shimmering fabric, and necklaces thick with jewels hung from his neck. The golden cloak that was made for him dragged four feet behind him and his wings were exposed, and were so large, the golden feathers dragged on the floor. Abiel was sworn in, vowing to protect and rule Heaven with a wise mind, a forgiving heart, and a brave soul. The crown was passed, and the title of God was passed with it. Abiel took his place on the throne, and Bakeal lead in the kneeling to him.
Following the ceremony was a party like no one had ever seen. All the doors to the great hall were open and guests from all over, both royal and common were laughing and dancing. Everything had gone so smoothly and perfectly that even the soldiers were relaxing. Maryse and Nycole were enjoying some time to just sitting together, and watching the guests dance and play. Even Bakeal was enjoying the time dancing and conversing with all his previous subjects.
He welcomed their embraces and gave them all blessings he could for a happy and healthy life. After a quick nod to a messenger, he went back to Abiel, and hugged him tightly. "Rule wise, my son. Your mother would be so proud." He smiled softly and then turned to the guests. "I beg your pardon, I must take my leave. My energy is not what it used to be." He bowed to Abiel, then to the guests and left the room to return to his chambers.
The messenger, Apollo, walked up to Maryse and Nycole, and sat next to them. "Enjoying the festivities?" He smiled as he took a drink from the wine goblet he was holding.
"Yes, thank you. It is nice to seemingly have a night to simply enjoy." Maryse smiled and kissed Nycole's head lovingly.
"Well, unfortunately I have some bad news in that case. God - I mean Bakeal - would like to speak with you both privately in his chambers." Apollo said with his voice lowered. "I'm not sure what it's about, but he said to be as discreet as you can and come as soon as possible."
Both soldiers slowly sat up, "well, thank you for letting us know, we'll look into that as soon as we get permission from our new God." Nycole said smoothly and took her husband's hands in hers. "But for the night we shall let him celebrate and we shall return to our chambers, so we are rested for tomorrow's work."
Together they casually slipped away from the party and began walking down the hallway. Once they got to the great library, they used one of the secret passages only the guards knew about and quickly walked the length of the tunnel to Bakeal's chambers.
Once there, they exited carefully into a storage room for the guards' weaponry and exited, finishing the journey. The servants let them in and stayed out, which was very unusual. The outer chambers were completely empty, and that was where the servants who watched over him as he slept waited and entertained themselves, but they were now waiting to go back in. The inner chambers were empty as well, all except for Bakeal who sat very calmly in a chair.
"Welcome, Maryse, Nycole, please have a seat. I have something very important to discuss with you." Bakeal motioned to the two empty seats around the small table complete with two freshly poured glasses of wine, and his own half empty one.
The blonde, blue-eyed couple sat down in the chairs and both took a glass. "What can we do for you my Lord?" Maryse stared off the conversation.
"As you are very aware, Abiel has quite a temper about him, and nothing I can do will calm it. Several days ago, I had a private meeting with the Fates and I received some very distressing news." He took a long drink of his own wine and continued. "If left to rule, Abiel will become so enamored and in love with power that he will open all the portals to all the realms and destroy everything. Our entire world as we know it will be reduced to ashes. It will take much time, but he will accomplish it."
Nycole gasped and covered her mouth in horror, "But my lord, what can we do about it? We have already received our retirement package."
"I was given a second fate. Should I make another child one this night, as it be kept in safety and in hiding, the child will grow more powerful than any of us, and even Abiel cannot destroy her. It would eventually grow to rule and lead all the realms in peace and love. It will keep the realms separate and will one day be the greatest ruler that anyone will ever know." He explained slowly.
"I have already chosen you, Nycole to be the mother of this great Angel. For this reason. You are young and married. It would only be natural for you to conceive a child with your new husband. This would be no news and of no bother to Abiel. I have already set up a house in the countryside with a large bit of land, members of my court to assist you, and a magic user from another realm to tutor the child in all ways. Of course, you can reject this offer, this is no order, just a plea of help."
Maryse drank all his wine within a few gulps. Then he took a deep, steadying breath and looked at his beautiful wife. "The choice is yours my love. Any child you give, I would be honored to call my own." He worded carefully, knowing what she should say.
"My lord, my King, as soldiers of Heaven, we were sworn to do our duty to protect this realm, even from its rulers if needed. The choice is clear. I will bear this child you say, that is if I can." Nycole smiled softly and took her husband's hand.
"If the act is done on this night, you will conceive. And once the sun rises, you must leave immediately to ensure that you will not be observed by Abiel. He is very smart and once he is informed that you met with me this night, I assure you he will be looking for you. The residence waiting for you is out of his range of travel and I will say that you both were so enchanted by the idea of a chance to raise a family, that you left as soon as you could. I have special care in place to protect you both." Bakeal let out a sigh of relief.
Maryse stood and kissed his wife. "I suppose I shall leave you to it. I'll be in the outer rooms, waiting for you." He bowed deeply. "My lord, all I ask, is that you love her with all the passion in the world that you can. For this woman is the most brave and kind-hearted woman in all the realms."
"I will Maryse and thank you for being supportive about this decision." Bakeal stood and bowed to Maryse in return.
Once Maryse had left the rooms, and the doors had been shut, Bakeal walked up to Nycole's chair and gently took her hand, pulling her to her feet. "Come." He led her into the bedchambers and closed the doors, before pulling her close and kissing her deeply.
A blush spread across her face as she leaned into him and closed her eyes, the man she had always wanted to know this way was going to love her, if only for a night. His hands gently removed the outer clothing that covered the chainmail and he reached behind her back to undo the lacing that held the chainmail tight against her.
As the last bit of her chainmail fell to the floor, he took a step back. "My dear Nycole, I have wanted you since you got your wings." Bakeal whispered in a breathless excitement as he watched the flames of the candle light flicker light across her skin. "You are the most beautiful woman I have seen in centuries." He undressed slowly and walked towards her once again. Both nervous, he softly began kissing her again and brushing her hair back behind her shoulders, his hands caressed her soft skin. Trembling, they made their way to the bed, and he lay atop her, never once letting their lips part.
*******************************************************
Awakened with a soft kiss, Bakael stirred Nycole from her sleep and smiled at her sweetly. "It is time to dress, my love. Your husband and your horses await you." He left her clothes on the bed, and he tucked the chainmail away. "Leave this with me, to remember you by." He whispered softly.
Dressing only in her outer clothing, she gave Bakeal a quick but deep and passionate kiss before opening the doors and going to the outer rooms to meet with her husband. Both the inner and outer rooms had been set up to look like he had had many guests, with playing cards and half empty goblets with wine littered around the rooms. She woke her husband with a soft kiss on the cheek. "Come, we must hurry."
Quickly, the two hurried through the secret passageways to the courtyard and got to their horses without anyone noticing them. Together, they sped off to the as fast as they could with nothing with them but the clothing on their backs.
Bakeal tucked the chainmail into the secret hiding place under the floorboard of his bed where he kept the most precious of objects, including the necklace his wife had given him. Once the sun rose, he laid in bed and closed his eyes, breathing in the scent of the only woman he had been with since his wife and pretended to be asleep as a cloaked figure entered the room.
Not a sound was made as the blade slipped under his rib cage and into his heart. Bakael's blood seeped into the sheets and mattress and began dripping to the floor. It was time. As he slipped into the sweet death that he knew had awaited him, the last person on her mind, was the woman who would very soon, bear his second child - and the savior of all the realms.
