Chapter 29 - Crashcourse

The old man was in tears. Did he just decide to follow a man that did not know the tiniest thing about the sword and magic? At this rate, it was not a question of if he could be a legend, but whether he could even pass the examination.

As there was no way that he was going to renege on his oath, so he could only grit his teeth and prepare to lift him all the way to the top.

Massaging his forehead, the old man decided to try to make him able to clear the magic examination. Given that Foo had no skill with the sword, even though he had a warrior class, it was unlikely that he could learn anything related to the sword quickly enough. And then again, even if he was a fast learner, the old man was unsure if he could even teach it, he was not a warrior after all.

The fact that Foo had gained the research wizard title would suggest that he had done something right, even though he had only been researching fairy tales before. The difficulty to gain a title would indicate that he at least could learn something to exhibit.

But thinking about it, the old man gave a sigh of relief. The title should grant him admission to the academy. But as the title was a unheard of, it would be best if he could show up some magic skills, else they might even deny him admission. He had to at least get the facts about magic straight, and preferably form a magic pool.

The fact that he had a warrior class would not help him get admission into the warrior section, as the class was also unheard of. If you were to compare the class to the similar sounding [Slasher] class, it would be too weak to be accepted into the academy. As such, all hope were pinned on the magic part of the examination.

After steeling himself for the exhausting task to come, the old man explains: "To use magic, one need to form a magic pool inside their bodies. This pool will contain the mana that the wizard then can use to cast magic."

After seeing that Foo nodded in understanding, he then continued: "Some people are born with body types that boost the magic pool in different ways, although it is rare."

Chanting a quick spell, a glowing orb appeared in the old mans hands, before it quickly faded away. Even more depressed because of the results, the old man said: "Unfortunately, your body does not show any resonance to magic. Thus it means that you do not have any boosting body type, so we will have to spend more effort."

After closing his eyes for a moment, the old man started to explain: "To cast a magic spell, you need a mental imprint with the magic formations. Fortunately, the system can help with the imprint, allowing you to activate the magic with only a chant when you have the spell skill. To learn a spell, you usually repeatedly use magic scrolls. The magic scrolls have magic formations, which will reside in your mind when it executes. To learn the magic spell, you take the opportunity to try to imprint the magic formation in your mind when it passes by."

Foo nodded his head. The explanation sounded logical. It seems like the magic formations were like programs, and the mind of the wizard was a computer. To learn a spell, you basically had to copy the program while it was being run by the computer. When you had the program, you could instruct the system to run it by using the chant. As such, there was no need at all to understand the program, you just had to `steal` it. Magical piracy for the win!

As one of the most avid pirates... eh... haters. As one of the most avid pirate haters, Foo had plenty of experience on how piracy worked. In order to prevent it, of course. And as such, he had great hopes in learning magic.
