Chapter 2 - Dream 01: The Door

All around me there was only darkness. Darkness such a deep black it caused my whole being to panic. My tiny hands shook uncontrollably, my legs wobbled with uncertainty, and my eyes darted back and forth looking for anything beyond this deep void. I've had this same dream hundred of times, but I still can not control the fear and panic that comes along with it. I don't remember when it first started, but I can't help and feel stranded in this deep void in my subconsciousness. I closed my eyes, waiting for the dream to be over.

"One, two, three, four, five, six, seven. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven." My breathing became more controlled with each count, my mind gaining back control of my body. I began counting again, pacing back and forth as I did so. "One, two, three, four, five, six, sev-," I couldn't believe my eyes. There in front of me, illuminated in the darkness was a door.

"What is this?" I walked towards the door to get a closer look. In all my times that I've had this dream, I have never seen a door. The door loomed over me as if it was ready to crush me, its dark wooden grains seemed to pulse with each second I looked at it, and the silver doorknob staring me in the face as if it was saying "turn me." Before I could stop myself, I reached out my hand feeling the cool silver knob. There was something sinister about this door and every bone in my body told me not to open it, but it was as if it was calling out to me. Almost like clockwork, the gears in my body slowly turned the knob. A calm wave of emotions swiftly overtaking my body as I did so.

Suddenly, my whole body was being pulled away. A mysterious force lifting me off of the ground and away from the door. I flailed around, trying to free myself so I could be with the beautiful door once more. The tugging became more violent, thrashing my body around, and with one more sudden fling, I was greeted by a sudden wave of light.

"Wake the hell up, Alex," a large rough hand slapped me across the cheek. My sisters smiling face greeting me with sinister eyes. Grunting in pain, I lifted myself off of the bed to once again greet the daylight. "Finally," she said as if she just got the rarest drop in a game. "Seriously, Alex, you're eighteen, when are you going to wake yourself up?"

Still reeling from the hit I let my sarcasm spill out of my mouth, "Hello, sis, may I have another?"

She hung her head and shook it with disappointment. "Ha-ha. Hurry up and get ready, you're going to miss the bus."

"What about breakfast? A man can't learn on an empty stomach."

"Well you could, eat breakfast, but you'd be late to first period, and isn't Dr. Geiger your first teacher."

My eyes bulged, and I quickly crawled my way out of my covers. Adrenaline was pumping through my veins, urging me with great persuasion to not miss that dictator of a teacher's class. "Why didn't you wake me up earlier, Lise?" I said in a panic. Lise scowled at my stupid question, her face scrunched up to tell me what I already knew.

"Yeah," I sighed realizing my stupidity. Of course, she had tried with earnest to wake the log of her brother up, even going as far as to slap me with her abnormally large hands. "I'm sorry, Lise."

She held up her hand, signaling that it was all good. "Anyways, you have a good dream?"

A creepy smile overtook my face. The ends of my lips greeting the edge of my face and a shadow of pure ecstasy washed over me. "The best."
