Chapter 1 - Top Cadet Lian Yin! (1)

A shrill ringing entered Lian Yin's ears, and he forcefully expelled air from his body. Ruffling his hair in annoyance, he brought his phone to his ear and hissed, "What? What is so terribly important that you have to call me at this ungodly hour!"

Lian Yin glanced at his alarm clock, its glowing letters showing 2:38 am. He glanced at the girl that slept next to him. What was her name again? Caroline? Charline? He sighed and stood, listening to the drone coming from the other side of the phone.

"Yes, yes. I understand." He stood before his bathroom's mirror and looked at his stubble. He leaned in closer to the mirror, looking directly at his golden-brown eyes. If he turned a specific way, a flash of red could be seen from deep within his pupils. Grinning ferociously, he spat into the sink and turned on the water.

"Are you listening to me, Lian Yin!?" a woman's voice thundered into his ear.

"Yes, yes. I am." he turned back to the mirror and looked at his hair. He needed to get it cut soon.

"You better be listening, buddy! Your next mission happens in T minus forty minutes."

"Really?" He leaned onto the counter with his free left hand, "Can't I just have a break once in a while?"

"Who made you be our top cadet?"

"The f*cking system."

"What was that?"

"I said that it's your f*cking system. Anyone who's even slightly smart can excel."

"Are you telling me that everyone but you is stupid!?"

He chuckled, imaging the large vein and dark lines that would be on his manager's forehead. "Yes."

"Alsnogiawngdgniowe." Indiscriminate mumbling could be heard from the other end of the line, and Lian couldn't help but laugh harder.

She was hilarious. He couldn't help but want to tease her more.

[Host has 38 minutes and 23 seconds to get ready.]

"Yes, yes, f*cktard. I know." Lian Yin muttered and sighed as he glanced at the only thing he was wearing- sports pants.

He needed to change. "Hey Amelia," he said into the phone, "Who am I going to be this time?"

"American. 23-years old. Going back to college, so he decided to become a-"

"Taxi driver. Yeah, I know. Continue."

"Smart Alec."

"Gullible."

He heard an audible sigh from the line and his grin widened. Checking his teeth, he grunted to let Amelia know that she could continue.

"Fine. Just be yourse- cough, I mean, be a deadbeat and you'll be fine."

"Ouch," he dramatically clutched his heart with his left hand, "you've wounded me."

"Just come over here and I'll wound something else."

"Haha. Alright, enough joking. Where to?"

"New York."

"Ah, Nueva York. Fun."

"She's a blonde bombshell. Not hard to miss."

"Awesome. Anything else?"

"Nope."

He was about to disconnect before she quickly yelled something at him.

"Don't bang her!"

He hung up right after.

Damn it, he thought, how'd she know?

Sighing, he placed his phone into the back pockets of his low-fitting sports pants before he returned to his bedroom to change.

The girl on his bed stirred before she propped herself up with her arm. "What are you doing?" her voice was heady with sleep.

"Changing."

"Why?"

He glanced at her but didn't bother to answer. He had more important things to do.

[Host has 28 minutes and 46 seconds to get ready.]

'Yes, yes, system. I know.' He clicked his tongue. He f*cking hated his system.

It took him less than five minutes to change his handsome profile into one of a deadbeat's, and he flashed his signature wolf grin at the girl before he left with a few parting words, "Leave the keys in the mailbox!"

He slammed the door as he left.

He still had 23 minutes left.
