Lizzy was veiled in grey, the colour of a nether slave. She had been brought here after separating from her mistress. She had first thought this was a dream, but the harsh treatment of slaves here, made her accept reality. She was far from home. She had been transported overnight to the nether halls as it is called and added as a slave the next moment.
She had been posted at the lower halls to do laundry until a few days ago when she was reposted to the highest floor. When she had first been sent here, she was not sure who this master she was to clean for was. He was always veiled in black garb and never bothered to look her way. But this was a good thing. Lizzy prided herself a good maid, someone who could think on her feet. She had been learning about the nether halls since working here.
She sorted through maps when the master was gone, she kept track of his schedule; when he went out and when he returned.
Sometimes she felt as though she was being watched, but could not find anyone no matter how much she looked around.
Today, she was heading for the master's study with tea. She was very careful to not who was watching her through her lace veil. Her grey dress was nothing like back in Juhntt. The clothes she wore were lighter and as such, Lizzy was quite light on her feet. Though only a few days since she had been working for the master, she had learned to be light on her feet, moving while making as little sound as possible.
She passed through the bedroom and walked into the study after a quick knock. As usual, the master did not answer, but she still walked in and placed down the tea without looking his way. She bowed and moved out swiftly, as though she had never entered, closing the door behind her.
Just as she was about to make her way to the sitting room to start cleaning, guards in black dashed past her into the study.
"We are under attack," one of them said and she paused in her step and then continued walking.
She watched them leave with the master and turned around to return to the study. The master was usually away for five minutes, but she hoped this emergency would keep him away longer.
Hurriedly, she looked through his desk, hoping to find the amulet he took off during dark. It was nowhere to be found. She went for the safe behind the painting of a black crow and as expected, there was some odd force keeping her out.
"No, it should be here," she returned to the desk and went through parchment and books. Inside one of them, the amulet sat. It was engraved with a crow having a red jewel for its eye. Tying the amulet around her hand, she went for the safe. The force no longer there, the safe unlocked without effort.
Inside were documents alone. She looked through hurriedly. She had hoped to find something that could help her navigate this unknown world inside, but all of these documents were written in a language she did not understand. She encountered an odd map and took it out. She did not bother to find out what kind of map it was and closed the safe in a hurry.
She hurriedly placed the painting back in place and turned to meet the master right behind her.
