The next morning Katrin woke up feeling like she'd just dropped something important and couldn't find it.
"What was I thinking about, again?" she asked the ceiling of her bedroom.
She thought back. The last thing she remembered was getting shot by a green beam in mid-air. {I must have respawned back at my base or something. Right?}
Something felt wrong. Actually a lot about last night felt wrong. But she couldn't put her finger on it. She couldn't remember anything beyond that point… {anything}.
"No way." Katrin's eyes widened. "Was I… captured? And memory-wiped?! What did I say? What did I {do}?"
There was no answer. And that was the worst part of all.
