Chapter 10 - Soul Practitioner

Young Master Aren was excited.

Yes, excited!

That demonic vixen is an expert of who knew how many centuries ago. Erasing memories using inner energy was a practice that involved the soul. Even implanting a false memory and creating an identity out of nowhere requires massive inner energy. That "Cassandra Vega" must be one of her many identities.

Anyone with a sane mind would know how dangerous those kinds of experts are.

A soul practitioner that specializes in affecting Karma!

To highlight a soul practitioner's power, one must know that soul practice requires a meticulous mind and a scary legacy.

If a soul was damaged, a person would never get to reincarnate!

Soul practitioners are as rare as qilin horns and phoenix feathers! Not everyone would have the guts to practice under that art. Even if they have the guts, few would have the required luck and enlightenment. Thinking about it, he must have saved up enough merits for three lifetimes to even meet one.

Spirits, he had no idea why that demonic vixen had decided to target him, but he had this nagging feeling that it had something to do with the Greater Mountains.

Fragmented memories of last night's drinking involved being asked questions about that place. The Master placed great hope upon getting him and his Senior Brother some good experiences in this outdoor training. Their mission was simply to kill a number of few rare beasts. It was a basic mission of getting raw materials to forge weapons. The mission spelled boring. But adding that demonic vixen in the equation…

He was sure that if he heads towards the Greater Mountains, he would meet her again!

If he could ask her to teach him a thing or two about souls, or have her pass down to him the technique of so that no one will remember him, isn't that fuckin' awesome?!

He could repeatedly cheat at the gambling den and no one would recognize him!

He could get himself drowned in debts, but the loan sharks would never ever find him!

He could build himself a harem of thousands, but the fathers and uncles and grand daddies of those ladies would not even get a chance to beat him!

This was a clearly a fortuitous encounter in the outside world. Grabbing it, wouldn't he become the wealthiest and happiest man in the continent?!

Truly, beautiful women are a source of disaster! But didn't his Master also once said that with risk comes fortune?

If he could charm girls and ladies alike, he could find a way to get into the good graces of that demonic – no, he meant that lovely and wonderful goddess.

Young Master Aren headed out back towards the Greater Mountains faster than as if his ass was on fire. He was even laughing and giggling while he sped his car on the highway, wishing that he was like his Master who could fly in the air. That would be multiple times faster than driving.

Maybe, maybe he could even ask that lovely and wonderful goddess to be his Master too… then wouldn't that be like having two life-saving talismans?! Who would even dare to touch him with two powerful practitioners as his backing?

With this, he might even get clearance to leave this mortal country and head out to the outside world where the practitioners rule supreme!

"This Young Master is really the smartest!"

Back at Enqeton, Cass opted to stay in a nearby inn for the morning. She did try to ask several more locals in the city, like the street vendors and another passing patrol soldier, if they knew of someone named Cassandra Vega, or if they have ever heard of General Vega having a niece.

All answers came in the negative.

General Vega was a local hero. The Vega family was famous for their illustrious contribution to the war, so it was not an exaggeration to say that the family had the public eye on them at most times. People loved to gossip. Even if the Vega family had their ancestral home in Gaelsworth, people from Enqeton still loved to talk about them.

Aleyk, for example, was popular among the girls because of his friendly and good-natured disposition. Alistair, despite being somewhat stoic, was also well-known because he is the second son of Vega. One sunny, the other cold, not to mention their handsome looks and venerable background. The two of them might yet to have reached the proper age for marriage, but there were already rumors of females vying to be their wives.

Sadly, no one had ever heard of a Vega daughter in this generation…

After thinking for some time, Cass eventually decided to head to the military base in the north of the city. She wanted to visit her brothers, but she had lost courage somewhere along the way.

Her brothers wouldn't recognize her too.

She'd rather not see them.

That leaves her with no choice. Her next step would be to head out to the Greater Mountains and find the source of the curse, that abandoned ruins she chanced upon years ago as a child.

She could not bring Kala and Nnah there as wild beasts lurk there. The two youths would not be able to defend themselves. She would have to bid them goodbye here in Enqeton.

However, she was afraid that this pair of cousins would be misled once she left them to fend for themselves. She had to make arrangements before she goes.

She could try to settle them inside the Vega branch here in Enqeton. There were also some households here whose young masters and ladies were her acquaintances. Even if nobody remembered Cass, she could pull off a trick or two to give jobs to this pair of cousins.

"Kala, Nnah," she called out. "What skills do you have? Something you can do better than other people."

Kala scratched his head. According to Nnah, it seemed like he had some talent in teaching, but since he could not read, he could not become a teacher.

"I am good at looking out for Nnah!" he exclaimed, his grin spreading like it was the noblest skill in the world. "Milady, you might have noticed it too that Nnah is a scatterbrain! She has to be constantly reminded of everything she has to do."

Cass did not know whether she would laugh or cry. "Not that. By skill, I mean—"

"You're bullying me again, cousin!"

Nnah tried to think hard. She wanted to prove that Kala wrong. However, aside from her quick hands, she could not think of anything else.

"Ah, I can eat anything, milady! Aunt says that my stomach is like a black hole!"
