When the house burned down, 45 year old Thomas thought all had been lost, that he would never be able feel even the illusion of life again. But that had been proved wrong immediately as he became something similar to a spirit, one that could cast illusions and make his house look whole instead of the pile of burnt remains that it really was, trapped in his property with no wishes to go to the realm of the dead where he was destined, wishing to be trapped in his home forever.

20 years later, a young fox who is desperate for work accepts the strange job offer he found in the papers to be a servant of some sort at a large mansion, a suspiciously generous offer to have housing and meals provided to him in this place. But as he learns, there is more to the house than what is presented in the ad, and terrible secrets that lurk beyond the surface.
