“Just sign the paper, or are you too eager to lose a finger?” I was terrified, but I knew that giving in was not an option. And giving in to his demands would only lead to more pain and suffering. Both were saying there will only be one person who will end up suffering, and it would be me. 

“Ahhhh...” I screamed in pain as I felt the knife poke my index finger. The blood dripped slowly onto the table, making more tears stream down my face. And I give up, knowing that my only chance of survival was to comply with his demands. 

“Stop. I will marry you.” I cried out, feeling defeated and broken, and within moments, the maniacal look in his eyes turned to that of triumph. He had won.

“Good choice.” The stranger’s eyes shone with a dangerous glint as he smiled triumphantly, knowing he had finally broken me. He handed me a pen. I felt a part of me that wanted to scream, to claw my way out, but I was crushed under the weight of inevitability. I had no choice but to surrender. I signed the marriage certificate, barely aware of the consequences as my hand moved on its own.
