First Master Ruyin, who had lost his wife years earlier, formed an alliance with the newly widowed Nightfall Empress Dowager, Xuwen, at the request of his older brother, the Emperor of the Heavenly Empire. This union was a strategic move to protect her son, the newly ascended Nightfall Emperor, from trials and doubts cast by rival clans within the Nightfall Empire regarding his early ascension to the throne.

Xichen, the young Nightfall Emperor, did not oppose this arrangement. In fact, he recognized that this alliance would be advantageous to both sides. The tie not only secured peace between the Heavenly Empire and the Nightfall Empire citizens but also sealed a treaty preventing either side-who had long been embroiled in endless conflict-from eventually engaging in war.
