Ava was left at The Institute as a baby, no one knowing her parents or why she was left her there.  Being labeled as an Abandoned didn't really mean anything to her growing up.

While most of the children in The Institute and The Academy were Fosters or Boarders, temporary placements and students, a large quantity of the more permanent residents were placed there traditionally through adoption agencies.
