Adrianna is betroth to Prince Willow, a man she's never met apart from a few formal occasions and knows next to nothing about. 
Except her brother, everyone else is for the idea especially her sister who believes it's the way royal connections are made and she would eventually learn to love her husband to be. 
On her pre-engagement night, she is distraught and overwhelms and goes to the library to be away from everyone when she happens upon a strange book, a summoning book that promises the reader spells necessary to summon any creature to do your bidding.
Magic, first of all is forbidden in Valtoria so at first Adrianna doesn't believe it'll work but out desperation she tries it. 

What she wanted was a guardian, a fairy god parent that can grant her a wish to stop the wedding but just one mistake and the page turned and the next day, poor Adrianna realized what she had done—she had summoned a demon. 
An unholy creature named Damian. 

Damian on the other hand cannot understand the sudden change of events. One second he was trapped in Shoel and the next he was standing over a small red head with the greenest eyes he had ever seen, obviously surprised that he was here instead of the winged creature she hoped to see. 
Regardless, they made the best of the situation. 
He would help her get out of her engagement and she would find the summoning book that suddenly went missing after he appeared. He needed it unbind himself from her and start his plans. The same plans of revenge he had been creating since his time in Shoel and the same plans that will finally happen because of sweet naive little Adrianna.
