Simon, an office worker with a penchant for video games, finds daily solace in fantastical virtual worlds, starkly contrasting his mundane real-life routine. Meanwhile, in the magical kingdom of Veridian, an ancient prophecy heralds a hero who will rise to save the realm from impending darkness. In an attempt to summon this legendary figure, Veridian's royals and the archmage conduct a grand and resource-intensive magical ritual. However, they believe it fails when no hero appears to manifest in their world.
