It was as if a life before this had never existed at all. The scent of blood permeated throughout his nose and memory itself—deeply ingrained as if it were a nightmare. He thought that it would soon end. That he would awaken, and everything he had experienced was all just a cruel joke. If not, he had promised himself to end it. He'd take his own life.
Despite this, part of him wanted to keep going. A deep longing and belief for a light at the end of the road. His leg was limp. Face was bathed in blood. The only thing that got him to turn around was the deafeningly silent and slow steps echoing from down the cave. He wasn't alone.
