No, he had to fight and soldier on because of the promises he made. And for that promise he was willing to stare death in the face and endure hell, if that meant that he could love her and hold her close for the rest of their lives.

And amidst all of this, he would be led astray on the path left behind by a man his people once worshipped as 'demi-god'
