In the heart of Manhattan’s Lower East Side lives Asher Von Trapp, a prestigious young literature professor at New York University. For the past several years he has lived as a bachelor, enjoying all of the freedoms that the city has to offer: fancy restaurants, unique cafes, vintage book shops, and beautiful women. However, this all changes with the sudden death of his elder brother, Fritz. Feeling obligated to take responsibility for the after-death arrangements, Asher volunteers to take custody of his 4-year-old niece, Mia, and raise her as his own. 

This story unfolds as Asher learns how to deal with the grief of his brother's passing, as well as how he navigates the intricacies of his new life—crafting lesson plans for his lectures, writing his novel, aiding Mia’s adjustment to a new school and living arrangement, setting up play dates, handling grocery shopping and preparing meals for two, all while trying to maintain his active dating and social life. Readers will get a front row seat to Asher’s transition from academic bachelor to single parent, and how he tries to find happiness amidst the lingering sense of grief and darkness that haunts him. Besides his volatile state of mind and heart,  Asher also has an inescapable deep secret: he is a bloodthirsty vampire, and keeping this secret just became a lot harder.
